Based on your advice I went to OBDLink.com/products and saw the OBDLink EX (since I would prefer the USB version). The site doesn't ship outside the US (I'm New Zealand based) but the embedded link to Amazon does so I will buy it from there.

Your welcome, think adaptors called OBD link EX or MX depending whether you want Bluetooth or usb, but please confirm this. Even these have been cloned, so be aware when buying to ensure genuine.
I myself have had a switched adaptor for over 8 years, it works very well and has good response time ...
