I have a decent Windows 10 laptop I'd like to activate forscan on. However, my Panasonic CF-30 ruinning dos and XP has amazing battery life, so I was considering using that.
I know FORScan is compatible with XP, but how do you activate it without connecting XP to the internet? From what I understand, connecting XP to the internet even briefly is considered very unsafe do to abandoned ctrl servers and update sources being taken over.

Stop worrying about something is very unlikely to ever happen. You won't activate a paid licence or be able to download required files without any internet connection.SystemInfo wrote: Wed Sep 17, 2025 8:24 pm I have a decent Windows 10 laptop I'd like to activate forscan on. If you're still worried, block all inbound & outbound connections except FORScan or just use the Win10 laptop.

I know for example, that putting any xp system online before service pack 2 is instantly hacked because the update servers it looks for are compromised.
Same thing with any original xp installer disk, they get hacked before it's even done installing
I think Ill go with the windows 10 laptop. It's a ruggedized so Ill buy an extra battery

I have multiple laptops running old windows and forscan.
One is xp, two are win 7.
Never had any issues.
Xp is so old no one targets it now in my experience.

I just use xp for programming old radios that have software that only runs on XP (I also run dos on the machine for the same reason)

Yeah same here. I have old software for old cars that won't run on the new stuff.

I have old XP devices that I occasionally connect to the internet & have ZERO issues with any of themSystemInfo wrote: Thu Sep 18, 2025 1:52 pm I know for example, that putting any xp system online before service pack 2 is instantly hacked because the update servers it looks for are compromised.
