Hello!
I connected my Vgate Mini ELM327 BT Interface to my Mk4 Ford Mondeo FFV 2.0 145hp Duratec and started Forscan, it connected then Forscan said "Unknown vehicle, contact developer".
What''s going on?
Unknown vehicle?

Please email us logs as described on Contact Us page.
Re: Unknown vehicle?
I checked the logs and Forscan can't read the VIN code and fails because of that, is it because it's an unmodified ELM327 adapter?
Re: Unknown vehicle?
If you mean MS-CAN modification - no, it doesn't affect connection. Unmodified adapter should work fine except that it unable to see MS-CAN modules.
Reading VIN is also not critical for the program functionality, but it is some kind of bad sign that most likely means there are problems with adapter (FORScan cannot read data reliably). This is why we always ask to send us logs - not possible to find an exact reason just by symptom.
Here are threads if 2 most popular (at this moment) china adapter problems:

Re: Unknown vehicle?
Oh, bummer, it didn't cost much so not such a big deal, I'll look into another adapter then, thanks for checking tho'.
Maybe people should stay away from the Vgate adapters then?

Re: Unknown vehicle?
We believe the problem is not in the adapter manufacturer but in this v2.1 chip. Adapter manufacturers have no much choice (if they install v1.5 and their competitors use v2.1, they will lose the market). The v2.1 chip works with majority of OBD2 software and nobody care about FORScan project that doesn't make the adapter market. We are afraid that in some short period of time all china adapters on the market will be equipped with this v2.1 chip. When this happens, it will be not possible to purchase a cheap china adapter and use it with FORScan. Although there is some small chance the developers will fix the problem and release v2.2 that will have the problems fixed.Ford4Life wrote:Oh, bummer, it didn't cost much so not such a big deal, I'll look into another adapter then, thanks for checking tho'.

So, our recommendation is:
1. Purchase white-label solutions (OBDLink MX, CanTieCar).
2. If option #1 is not acceptable, try to at least purchase ELM327 v1.5 adapter.
Re: Unknown vehicle?
Ok, well it was advertised as "W3LE New Car Auto Diagnostic Vgate Mini ELM327 Interface V1.5 Bluetooth OBD2 OBD" so I thought it was a v1.5 adapter.
I haven't really gotten any readings from anything, I tried some free apps for the phone, they connect but that's about it... no data is being recieved, at least nothing I can trust.
