Where to buy a compatible adapter?

I have a 99.5 E350 van and bought kobra elm327 wifi from amazon and it does not work. I have iPhone and android. I can see obd2 but it will not connect. Used a free app for testing and it says weak signal, it will connect but not show anything. When I start van and hit diagnosis it will kill engine. Any recommendations?

Whatever you buy, make sure it specifically says it works with the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) Bus for full support. I personally use the OBDLink MX Bluetooth.

Also made the mistake of purchasing a cheap, $5., chinese ELM327 clone from eBay to use with FORScan and my 2014 Ford Escape. It has V1.5A on the label but uses an old Prolific PL-2303 chip. It may load the adapter in Windows 7 with the old drivers but not in Windows 10 that uses newer drivers. When you connect the adapter and check device manager you will see a yellow exclamation point next to Prolific USB-to-serial Comm port. You have to downgrade the driver to an earlier version. You can get the older driver from here: http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/supp ... 2-software In step 1 choose Windows 8, 10 and download Driver Pack 5. After installing the older driver FORScan saw the adapter on COM 3 but when I hooked it up to my Escape, key and/or engine on, I got the dreaded "Unable to connect to vehicle. Please make sure the ignition key is ON and try again". I contacted the ebay vendor, expecting to be blown off, but he was kind enough to refund me the 5 bucks. It may work with another vehicle but not with a newer Ford Escape.

So I'm going to give the bbfly-BF32301 adapter a try and will report back with the results.

Ordered the bbfly-BF32302 from AliExpress for $17.55 shipped. https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produc ... 98242.html Delivery time was 12 days. A little bit cheaper than Amazon and no sales tax. It also comes in a blue tooth version for a few bucks more.
The USB cable (6' long) version works great with my HP 10" tablet running Win 10 Pro 64 bit V.1709, ForScan, and my 2014 Ford Escape. No need to purchase the $80. OBDLink MX. I didn't see any conflicts in Device Manager when I plugged it into my tablet but to be current I downloaded and installed the latest FTDI chip driver. http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Only con is there are no markings on the switch for what protocol you are in. MS Can is the left position and HS Can is the right. ForScan will tell you to flip it if it is on the wrong setting.

I went ahead and bought my scan-tool OBDLink Mx bluetooth right from scan-tool.net, they have them fro $79 shipped, I figured I would not waste my time with these cheap chinese knockoffs and bypass all the frustration!!

Well, I am getting NOWHERE.

And while the driver installed and it shows on COM4, I get a "No ELM FOUND" when I try to connect. I purchased this specifically based on an article to do exactly what I wanted to do (enable keyless entry on my 2013 interceptor and make a couple other improvements)

OK. It's not compatible with FORSCAN despite what the poster said, so I purchase this:

It's SPECIFICALLY "MODIFIED FOR FORSCAN". Windows can't find a driver for it, no driver CD was included, and the link to the driver is a dead page.

WTF?

Does anyone know how I can get EITHER of these interfaces working?

And will they extend my trial of FORSCAN extended since I have yet to be able to actually USE it?

Vint and bbfly are the same Chinese company. The VINT-TT55502 and bbfly-BF32302 adapters look identical and probably are clones of each other out of the same Chinese factory and use the same chipset. You can try downloading and installing the drivers for your OS from here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

Did you look at the links? These units look nothing alike and the latter was modified "to work with Forscan".

I am fairly certain those are the drivers that are installed for the first unit. The second does not recognize them, and the nano keeps giving me a "No ELM Found" error.

But I appreciate your reply. Today is again the last day above freezing, so it looks like I won't be able to try it for a few more weeks.

I can anticipate a fight with Forscan to try the SW, as it will likely expire before I can try it.

Or are you saying the driver listed is for the bbfly unit and may work with the VINT?

Update: That is the driver loaded for the first one. It shows as COM4, but Forscan keeps giving me the "NO ELM FOUND" error after the "checking COM4" message.

Update 2: That driver does not work on the second unit. Device Manager identifies it as "USB2.0-Serial". You would think the internet search would find a driver for that since there are so many USB-Serial devices out there.
