Mondeo MK4 - IPC Update crashed

I ran the IPC update, it aborted about 5% into prorgramming so now I have a dead IPC.
Running the IPC firmware update tool again won't find the IPC so it can't properly read all values.

I assume the IPC is dead now... direction arrows are just blinking.

This seems to be a very dangerous thing to do, there should be a proper warning about it.

Modules update with Forscan combined to a low cost scan tool is risky job,i always warned about it,if you want to recover your ipc module you have to use ids or ucds t’s not dead but needs the right software,it’s juste sleeping.

1.
A warning is set, you make any modifications to the software at your own risk.

2.
Programming cheap adapters is short for hell.
Only adapters with a quality chip (ScanTools)
allow successful flashing of eeproms.

3.
Always back up the drive and have a tool at hand for possible drive recovery - the second way (IDS, etc.)

I'm aware of the risks of FW flashing, however Forscan's been very stable for me with other tasks, I was surprised that it failed, the IPC should be a fairly safe module to flash afaik.

Mmm it found some ID's on it's own I think but I couldn't load the last one or two files, those were marked with a red square.
Luckily I had a spare IPC (with cold solder joints tho') that works so I put that in for now.

I have ELM327 HS/MS USB adapter with a switch. Never had a problem with it until now.

The original is flaky, the IPC i tried to upgrade is an OEM replacement part from another car.
The settings on it were wrong so I loaded from asbuilt and wrote to the IPC, I also wanted to correct the mileage. And I thought why not upgrade it while I'm at it, that's where it all got messed up. I did try the test setting first and it worked fine so I thought I'd be safe.

1. Warning about not-safe operation is shown at least twice before you start the programming. The problem is that nobody reads the warnings.

2. IDS or UCDS are not necessary to recover the module. In 99% of cases you can recover it with FORScan.

3. It is important to do not remove original vehicle profile, FORScan will use it to read firmware numbers if module is bricked.

4. Please provide debug information to support, we analyze such requests with high priority now. If it is FORScan fault, we will provide a solution quickly. If it is adapter problem, we will confirm it (but you will have to find another adapter).

@Forscan
The original profile is present, I will try your instructions as you described in our mail conversation, I just need to find some time to do it.

Successfully recovered. "Stop activity on busses" might have helped, or it was a dodgy USB port on the laptop.
The procedure said "successfully programmed" but it also said the module was bricked.
I checked and had loads of DTCs but I also noticed the backup settings in the IPC was gone, so i loaded from AsBuilt, Wrote it, cleared DTCs.
Everything seems to be ok now... DTCs gone and settings can be read from the IPC.

A word of caution, make sure you have enough battery in your laptop or use a charger.
Also make sure your car battery is in good condition and of course hook it up to a charger. I was still afraid that the battery would run out on the car, it dropped down to 11,6v (started on 12.3v) during the procedure even tho' it was charging, the firmware update can take quite some time with the cheaper ELM-adapters.
