In the 2.2.* branch we introduced new terms: Standard License and Extended License for Windows versions of FORScan.

Standard license is the default one distributed with FORScan. Anyone who has downloaded and installed FORScan version for Windows already has Standard license, so no need to install it separately. FORScan under Standard license is fully functional, except some functions that are available under Extended license only. Extended license is not provided by default and has to be obtained as described below.

The objectives of the Extended license:

1. Limit access to critical or dangerous functions.
2. Take payment for functions that are most time/resource consuming in impementation.

So in other words, if you are a FORScan user, you will have only 2 cases when you need the Extended license:

1. If you want to help to the FORScan project financially, as we have no donation.
2. If you need an access to a function that is available under Extended license. If it is your case, please do not try to inquire for Extended License unless you see the following message:

Note: the functions may be implemented not for all models. Please either check for your car support in Change Log on the Products page, or check for the function presence in the functions' list when FORScan is connected to the vehicle,

Configuration and Programming -> All functions

Other functions do not require Extended License.

When Extended License functionality was introducted in 2015, only free 2 month trial licenses were available. Users had to generate License Key manually, account on our forum was required. When licenses expired, users were able to generate new one in the same way. Later, we elminated the requirement to create account on our forum for free trial licenses.

In March 2018 we introduced paid Extended Licenses for 1 year. Benefits of the paid Extended License against free 2 month trial are explained on this Support page:

You can purchase Extended License on the Products page through our partner's site. You can order 1 year license.

Attention! The license validity period is counted from the moment of purchase, and not from the moment of the first activation, as some users believe! Thus, it is useless to order the license in advance, or purchase new license much before old one has expired.

As soon as your payment is processed, the shop will show you order/confirmation page that contains Activation Code, and also will send you the confirmation email that contains the Activation Code and installation instruction. It will look like the following:

1. Please make sure you have latest version of FORScan for Windows installed (2.3.44 or more new).

2. Run FORScan and go to the About section (last item in the main menu).

3. Press "Enter Activation Code" button.

4. In the dialog opened please enter the activation code you received in email. Note: we strongly recommend copy & past the code (not type manually) to avoid mistakes.

5. Wait for activation result and confirm restart of FORScan. Note: if activation fails, please check your PC firewall settings and make sure FORScan outcoming connections are not blocked.

6. After restart the Extended License is installed and application is ready for use.

The activation code is valid during the whole license validity period. In case of laptop replacement, Windows reinstallation etc you may need to use the code to activate FORScan Extended license again. Please keep the activation code safe. In case of problems with the activation, please contact FORScan Support Team.

In addition to the letters sent by the payment processor, you will get a mail from FORScan server. It will include our forum invitation code, in addition to the Activation Code and instruction duplicates. Any or all of email can drop into Spam/Junk folder, so please look there if you haven't received both emails in a reasonable period of time.

Please install the Activation Code as instructed in the email received:

Select Activation Code (all symbols, but without any extra characters) and copy it to the clipboard (usually with right mouse click and popup menu or hot keys)
Go to the About section of the FORScan application and press "Enter Activation Code".
In the dialog opened, please copy Activation Code from the clipboard to the input field.
Run activation and confirm restart when FORScan asks about it

After restart application is ready to work.

If activation doesn't go through, please try/check the following:

Temporarily disable firewall, if it helps please add FORScan to the "white" list.
If it doesn't work after disabling firewall, the problem may be in the Internet Explorer settings. FORScan uses Windows system (Internet Explorer) for Internet connection. Run Internet Explorer and try to open FORScan site by HTTPS. If it doesn't work, please check and fix Internet Explorer settings.

If activation was successful, but FORScan still shows Standard License after restart, please check date on your PC, as it must be correct.

It is also important to note the following:

Internet connection is required at the moment of activation. After activation, FORScan doesn't require permanent Internet connection.
Activation Code is not one-time code. It needs to be used again to activate the Extended License if activation is lost for some reason. It is recommend to store the Activation Code in safe place. If Activation Code is lost, you can request it from FORScan support team.
One license is supposed to be used on a single PC by a single person (license owner).

Here is step-by-step instruction:

1. Copy the Hardware Id from the About chapter of FORScan:

Important note: you need the hardware id of the equipment that directly works with your vehicle. So if you have a desktop and laptop, and you use the desktop to review the logs and the laptop is used to connect to your vehicle, you need to get the Hardware Id of you laptop!

2. Generate trial license using this link:

with the following information:

Your First and Last name
Contact email
Hardware Id obtained on the step #1

3. Submit the request and wait until it is processed (usually it will take up to 20-30 minutes, but sometimes it may require more time). Starting from January 30th, 2024, notifications about key generation are no longer sent by E-Mail due to numerous delivery problems (many providers for some reason perceive such letters as spam). You need to reload the confirmation page in 20-30 minuters in order to obtain the key download link and instructions. If the process is completed, the key can be downloaded, otherwise current status will be displayed. It is not necessary to keep the page open; you can re-generate the request for a free license with the same data to go to the confirmation page.

4. Please download the key from the provided link and follow the accompanying instructions to properly download and install the free 2-month trial Extended License key.

5. FORScan with correctly applied extended license should look like this:
