Ford Adaptive Cruise Control Retrofit

Hi,
I'm looking more into retrofitting adaptive cruise control for my Ford transit custom 2019. What I understand so far is I require the following:
Full colour LCD instrument cluster (I'm assuming it's plug and play if I get the one just for my van?)
Front grill radar distance sensor
The adaptive steering wheel button? (Can it be activated in the cluster?)
I;m not sure if there anything else I need to consider or I need? Is there something I should check on the van first to see if I have the correct adapters / cables for it?
Any advice would be much appriciated
many thanks

Hi, unfortunately its not as simple as that, firstly its unlikely the cluster is plug and play, it will need re programming and possibly keys recoding also.
The CCM module will need a harness running as unlikely to be in place, it needs fixing at the correct height and levelling then programming and finally calibrating. Some have struggled with this myself included.
The steering switch may require a new clock spring and SCCM you won't know until you dismantle and check part numbers. You will also need to have a CH version of the IPMA (front camera) to enable adaptive cruise control.
Then theres all of the programming. BCM, ABS, IPC, IPMA etc Its a big job, i was unable to get this working satisfactorily on a mk8 Fiesta and went back to standard cruise. Others have been more successful but its a bit hit and miss

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I understand the cluster would need to be programmed but I would had thought it would use the same adapter?
The front camera I read you don't need for the adaptive cruise as it only uses the radar in the grill?
It looks like a lot needs to be done then ha. Anyone else completed something similar?
Cheers

No not true you definately need the Front camera as CCM connects to it, most basic models have AE versions, you need CH or onwards version of IMPA for adaptive. You may not need to change your cluster depends, also you need to ensure whatever you buy has correct calibration otherwise may not work with your existing modules.
Its a great feature to have but an awful lot of work and headaches to achieve! Trust me i know

Depending on your vehicle,i'am retrofitting adaptive cruise control to my 2012 C-Max(Focus mk3 based) witch had already cruise control,i just swapped the original steering wheel cruise control buttons for acc ones it's not necessary to swap the clock spring although i did it for lane keeping aid concerning the ipc i replaced mine with a level 3 one but it's not necessary and programmed it using Forscan,Focccus and UCDS i'am still struggling with the radar aligning alert permanently showed in the cluster since i have installed a Volvo radar and i should update it with the appropriate software, the Focus mk3 uses both the radar in the grill and the control module behind the glove box and only the module is connected to the hs can bus,the radar is connected to the control module through two private can bus lines, the ipma works independently and it is not involved in this process witch is different from the mk3.5 and mk4.

Just came across your post. I'm curious if you have any updates on how you got along with this upgrade? Any tips? Do you happen to have the part #'s for the CCM and the Volvo radar module you are using?
I'm currently looking into attempting retrofitting this in my North American 2013 C-Max PHEV (similarly, it is all heavily based on the Mk3 Focus). Still early in the research process but currently trying to find the appropriate modules and part #'s looks to be a chore especially being here stateside. eBay US doesn't seem to have a ton of Mk3 radar modules for example that can be imported, but a ton of Mk3.5/Mk4 ones. At least just going by eye and model years. Not having a good source for part #'s adds another degree of difficulty.
Good to know the IPMA is not required for ACC on the Mk3's. Since no driver assist features were offered here, there are no windshields that have the proper camera cutouts. I may still eventually try this and see if I can get an aftermarket windshield without the 'black' bits and maybe paint my own. But that's low on the priority list. ACC is more desirable.
Another thing I'm hoping is that the lack of a compatible IPC or cruise control switches won't hamper things and maybe the ACC can operate at defaults. Again, not having any of these offered here, the IPC doesn't have the AsBuilt options for ACC. I can easily find the CC steering wheel buttons with the distance inc/dec buttons. Seems like the Transit Connect here stateside shares the same steering wheel style and had it as an option. But that would be one less part to worry about at least for initial testing.

What do you mean by "not working satisfactorily"? I got it working flawlessly on mine. Maybe I could offer some help?

Hi thanks for offer but sold Fiesta now thanks, bought Mk4 Focus works perfect on that.
Think the problem with Fiesta mk8 was i bought Focus CCM and IMPA as Fiesta ones very rare, whilst i did upload the Fiesta Asbuilt and they wete the same part numbers, think there were differences as sometimes it would work for 100 miles before throwing a wobbler, other times it wouldnt work at all, hence went back to just plain cruise which worked perfect.
Bare i mind all of the options were retrofitted even badic cruise as it was a badic zetrc model.
