Free 2 month extended vs paid 1 or 3 year license functionality.

First off, a big shout out to tractmec getting me started on the forum.
- I’m using V2.3.45 on a free 2 month extended license. I tried, unsuccessfully, to purchase a one year extended license.
- My hardware: OBDLink EX adaptor, a netbook with an AMD Dual-Core C60 processor @1.333GHz, 2GB DDR, 256 GB SSHD, running Windows 10.
- FORScan is not finding the Power Steering Control Module of my 2011 F150 XLT SCab 5.0L 4X4 Radio with single CD. vin# 1FTFX1EF9BKD54082
- The PSCM is listed in the “as built” file I downloaded from the Motorcraft Service website.
- The PSCM is found with my AUTEL Maxi 200AP code reader.
- The rack is faulting with U2011-61 and U2011-:61-8B DTCs which I can reset with my Autel code reader, and the rack will work for a mile or so.
- Live data shows “long term pull compensation” value of 1510.298lbf-ft which I think may be part of the problem.
- I want to reprogram (back to “as built”) what appears to be the replacement Dorman (new) steering rack that was in my truck when I bought it
4/3/2021. I have a hunch it was programmed with the dongle Dorman supplies.
- What I read in the forum, viewtopic.php?f=13&t=18751, indicates I need to purchase a 1 or 3 year extended license for this
functionality.
- Is this the case?

You could have asked this in the General Support Forum as it is not actually a beta test topic!

A little more information on what difficulty you had in obtaining a the one year license would also help!

I will ask you a question first as to where in that link you saw that statement about the licenses? As to your original question, No as far as functionality is concerned and that tutorial you linked to is for the testing branch of the 2.4.5beta3 branch currently being tested in this thread for installing and/or updating firmware(calibration, strategy files and others) or more to the point the actual heart of a module.

The two month trial does provide this functionality also and I have done this Firmware Update on a 2010 Fusion PSCM with a two month trial. This is a totally separate functionality to the configuration and programming(AsBuilt and non AsBuilt) in the 2.3.45 version! The 2.4.5 version has all the same functions as in 2.3.44( the 2.3.45 updates will probably be added with the next 2.4.5 beta test) as well as the Firmware functions!

The AsBuilt file from FORD will be for a motorcraft rack assembly and the CarDOne Rebuilt I replaced on the Fusion used the same as built as the original! If Doorman is doing something different necessitating using their Dongle it seems to be causing something preventing FORScan reading it but not with AUTEL and it would be interesting to find out what!

The two month trial has the same functionality and program-ability as the "paid" licenses! Your problem appears to lie within the Doorman steering gear and module assembly and your hunch about the Doorman Dongle is likely correct!
FORScan is not seeing it for some reason and the FORScan log and dump.bin files are what FORScan needs in order to find out if you are right and to find a fix for this if they have never seen it before and there is one!

There are only two advantages the paid licenses have!

1: No need to renew every two months!

And probably the most pertinent to your question and I would suggest it is probably going to be necessary to overcome the paid license problem but I would follow the procedure below and send the information even without it and also include a note about the license difficulty!

2 You get full team email support. The Procedure for sending in debug information is here: https://forscan.org/contactus.html. see the Heading, "Providing Debug Information"!

Don't know if this helps!

- I posted my query in the General Support topic as suggested.
- The payment handler for license purchase refused my Chase VISA card, probably due to a NAMEs field mismatch - there was no MI field on their site.
- The first post in the General Support topic mentions this functionality, as does the article on v2.3.45beta, now in distribution & the version I have.
- Versions of FORScan predating v2.3.44 offered a lifetime option, in addition to free, one year and three year options.
- Nowhere in the FORScan app have I seen mention of PMI, Programmable Module Installation, which is what I want to do before replacing my rack.
- also mentioned in the two articles, there is no longer support for free extended licenses.
I'm a 74 YO "Jack of all trades, Master of none" trying to keep my 2011 f150 on the road as inexpensively as possible. I see FORScan as a helpful option.

Hi there.

Another benefit of a paid licence is that ForScan can load every Firmware you see in the "Update Module Firmware" Section.
Trial licence can't do this. You can try to load the files manually at ford IDS vbf Download page, but Ford has limited the files so often you run out of luck and the desired file is not available. Then you are stuck with a trial licence.
Paid licence can load all files and then they can be programmed.
If you get all files from the net you can use the CUSTOM Mode and set the files manually and update them via trial licence too, like VBF-Loader in UCDS.

So you have to decide.

Best regards
