I have a 2009 Flex, build date 04/09 FWD only. I had a Christmas tree of brake system warning lights come on in mid August. I used FORScan to read the codes and got B1342 ECU internal fault. I purchased a alleged good ABS unit (the ECU is mounted on it and is not serviced seperately). I cleared the codes and ran the test again, this time I got B1596, previously set DTC. The Brake warning lights would go out then suddenly reappear. After obtaining the used one, I installed it and bled the hydraulic system.

I got the expected VIN mismatch code and today took my laptop with FORScan on it out to correct this. I first did a scan for DTCs and got: C1300, B1342, C1175, C1145, C1165
C1300 - ABS Pump Motor Circuit Failure
B1342 - ECU internal fault
C1175 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure
C1145 - Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure
C1165 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure

The wiring harness was unplugged from the old ABS module well after the battery was disconnected and other than wiping my dirty thumb print off the face of the connector not otherwise disturbed. The replacement unit came with a cut off piece of harness and 6 pieces of crimp cut brake tubing. Other than the B1342 the others only showed up with the "new" ABS unit installed. I was tring to find the way to change the VIN in the ABS ECU, but could not locate it in the software. From seeing the fault codes, I didn't see a VIN mismatch, but it does show up as a window in the software so it is there when first connected.

Once I get a good ABS unit, I will need to reste to my VIN.

An abs sensor/s issue may hve been the original reason for the lights coming on.
If the module was bad then there is no way you could rely on it to give fault codes properly.
The new module either isn't plugged in correctly or those circuit codes are actual current problems.

I'm not sure about your model as we don't hve that here but many of the older fords did not need the abs module programmed with vin.

I would test the circuits that it is raised faults for to confirm the codes. The most troubling one being the pump motor circuit as that's internal to the abs unit.

You may just have a few bad sensors now, and possibly a bad pump motor. You can test all of these things with a test lamp and basic stuff.

I just went through the ABS section on my manual, and printed the pages for the specific fault codes. Unfortunately, I am not a novie on these systems, at least this has a power brake that works even if the ABS isn't, unlike the 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan with the Bendix 10 ABS system, no high pressure pump = stand on the pedal and pray you have the leg strength to stop the van.
I do have a Fluke 75 multimeter and a neat little dual trace oscilliscope so I can do the reccomended tests. My "probe kit" is a pair of paper clips, they slide in the small connections nicely.

Yeah I hve the same suspicion because of the pump code.
If they sit too long they can seize up.
