Powershift 6DCT450 (MPS6) looses calibration

Post by Skol »

Hello,

I have a problem with my Powershift 6DCT450 on my Mondeo mk4 2014 with 220.000km
10000km after changing the oil and filter it worked normally.
Last week it started to shift wrong. Drivetrain is shaking while changing gears and recs are changing very high.
Also it went into limited mode, which is gone after ignition change.

After resetting the module and clutch system and gear selector, by Forscan, it works perfectly. Even for 50km.
But on the next day the calibration is gone and then it starts again with the same problem.
Battery voltage seems to be fine.

Today I got also a transmission warning and had forscan in my car to immediately read out the DTCs.
Error Codes are: P2714 + P284B

My next step would be to change transmission oil again and ensure correct fuel level.
If problem still exists, the Mondeo will end on the scrap yard I assume :(

Do you have any further recommendations?
Thanks a lot!

The member on this forum who has had the most experience witrh the 6DTC450(MPS6)is Keithmac search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&keywords=Keithmac or here viewtopic.php?t=11475!
He has not been active here recently but searching and reading his experiences with this transmission might be of some help?

He found that the early MPS6 Or 6DTC450 transmissions(Hydraulically actuated shift forks and clutch actuators) had Nylon Retainers in the Clutches that would break up and shed debris into the oil that would get into Mechatronics unit(TCM) passageways and plug solenoid valve ports and/or cause solenoid valves to stick open or closed and cause all sorts of shifting and clutch slippage problems(P2714 indicates a Stuck Solenoid)!

Unfortunately your description of the problem sounds similar to keithmacs description of his experience!

If so the transmission is likely to need some major service work that no amount of programming, oil and filter changes, will help until the work is done!

Hi,

I also assume this is a major issue and not only an oil problem.
Nevertheless an oil change and filter change was performed and I will see tomorrow how the 6DCT450 will behave.

The Mondeo is 11 years old with 230000km, so I don't think a gearbox repair / change is useful.
Or does anyone has an idea where to get a rebuild gearbox in Austria?

Regards!
