Replacing and programming adaptive LED headlight ballast module of Ford Focus Mk4
Replacing and programming adaptive LED headlight ballast module of Ford Focus Mk4
Hi, the right DRL is flickering in the adaptive headlight of my Mk4 Focus. I have learnt that the LED ballast/driver module should be replaced. I have obtained a used one known to work. However after installing it does not work, an error is shown. How can I reprogram the module for my car?

Could you please share some more details like;
-What is the error?
-What is the P/N of the old module
-What is the P/N of the new module
-Is the ‘new’ module used or brand new?
Are you retrofitting adaptive headlights or is the car factory fitted with adaptive headlights?

Re: Replacing and programming adaptive LED headlight ballast module of Ford Focus Mk4
If you google this issue, you will find it was a common issue, apparently Ford had a batch of ecu's that had bad soldering and caused the flickering issue, cant remember the part numbers involved, but think it was the early boards, later ones are fine. The resolution is to fit a new control module as you describe. 1 of Mine did this and i replaced the control module it was a straight swop with no issues. My lights were retro fitted by me so this should work on factory fitted units too.without issues.
The fact your still having problems may mean something else causing it ie the replacement ecu is incorrect or has its own issue, is it used or new?

Hello ! I know I'm reviving dragons here, but I have quite a similar problem on my Fiesta mk8 Retrofit of FLEDS. Everything works fine, but the sweeping turn signals are flickering when low beam or high beam is on. When only drl is on, each one individualy is fine, but when I put them together as hazard lights, they show a little flicker at the end of their sweep. No DTC though, except on the door modules from the led there, but that should not be an issue.I can't think of anything else to try..car is built 09/2020, without auto level, the new generation of FLEDS for the mk8..any ideas ? My BdyCM SHOULD work , as I found one from an ST with the same BdyCM PN, built 11/2020. It had theoretically an older strategy though..so still mine should work..Maybe I should unplug each light and see for a problematic light ecu on one of the sides ? Could that be valid ?Graham17 wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 8:30 am If you google this issue, you will find it was a common issue, apparently Ford had a batch of ecu's that had bad soldering and caused the flickwring issue, cant remember the part numbers involved, but 5hink it was the early boards, later ones are fine. Fiesta leds are completely different to Focus ones, im Not aware of any problem suffered by the boards on the Fiestas, however its always possible.
Maybe worth swopping to prove ok.
Cant really help further as never did this mod on the Fiesta, however as with all retrofits, ensure all wiring, connectors and programming is correct and exactly as Fords wiring diagrams, programming from an
identical model with full leds, time consuming but the only way unfortunately.
Good luck

Re: Replacing and programming adaptive LED headlight ballast module of Ford Focus Mk4
Hello ! I tried everything programming wise, even checked a fiesta made in the same time frame, with the same BCM part number and either i did not find the proper digit to change or my bcm really cannot do it. It supposedly is capable, but I did not want to risk a calibration/strategy update or bcm replacement (even though I got one) while still on warranty. So I ended up making headlight connector loom extenders, on which I will put the 2200uf capacitors you suggested on the mk4 post! Clean, reversible and untraceable. Even on an unfortunate event, which I hope stays away from me, I can fully reverse it!Graham17 wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2026 8:03 pm Fiesta leds are completely different to Focus ones, im Not aware of any problemsuffered by the boards on the Fiestas, however its always possible.
