American 6.0L V8 Diesel cylinder balance/injector test

Hi, I want to start off by saying I have just discovered FORScan, and it's an amazing piece of software in regards to what it can do.

I have a 2005 Ford F-350 6.0L PowerStroke V8 diesel, and while FORScan can do many things with it, some important features such a glow-plug test, relative compression and injector/cylinder balance are not available. Is there any chance that these features will be added for the American diesel engines?

I believe the FORScan team is mainly a European based team, and may not have access to such a vehicle frequently. In that case, is there anything I can do to help assist with the addition of those features?

Thanks for the feedback. It would be great if you sent internal FORScan logs from your vehicle (instruction is available on Contact Us page). You are right, we have no physical access to the trucks, so we have to analyse information collected in FORScan logs. We have logs from '99 and '06/07 F-series, so it would be helpful to have ones from '05 vehicle. Please send the logs by email.

Regarding the tests: we already implemented injector electrical test (so called "buzz" test) for majority of Powerstroke engines. We will try to add glow plug test in one of nearest releases, as it is relatively simple. As for compression test and cylinder balance tests - these tests are quite complex and require fast adapter in order to be correct/effective. A lot of our users have slow china ELM327 Bluetooth adapters that (as we think) will be not able to return a satisfactory result. Anyway, we are going to implement them too in some future.

This is good news. Exactly what logs do you need to help develop the glow plug test and cylinder contribution tests? I have a 2005 6.0 diesel with a 2004 motor.

We need internal FORScan logs. Insturction is on the Contact Us page. It is desirable to do the following:

1. Clear the log folder before you run the FORScan
2. Remove vehicle profile, so FORScan will have to scan the vehicle configuration on the first connect.

Another useful feature would having the ability to turn off one injector at a time to help diagnose a weak/dead one.

Also, I notice that the engine oil temperature PID's do not have an option for reading in degrees fahrenheit. (I don't think I saw celsius either)

Thanks!

Hi Money-Pit,

Thanks for the logs, we have received it. We will analyse it as soon as we have chance and provide a feedback, if we have any questions. Otherwise we will add the features you request to the development queue, to be implemented in one of next versions.

Sorry for not sending the logs, the truck belongs to a friend, and he has not had any significant issues with it lately, so I haven't had a chance to scan it.

While not the 6.0 diesel, I have sent a log of a 2001 SuperDuty with the 5.4L V8 engine.

They have the glow plug test, and oil temp in °F and °C worked out so far.
