Possible to send codes to control functions?

Have a elm327 on order, but was wondering if the following is possible. I have a 2014 ford explorer and the heated and cooled seats are controlled from the head unit only (soft buttons). Eventually I want to replace the head unit, but don't want to lose heated and cooled seats. So I want to make a hardware button to control them. Is something like that possible with the elm327 and forscan software?
Thanks,
Jason

Unfortunately, it is not possible with current version of FORScan (and most likely, will not be possible, and least in the visible future).
FORScan doesn't interfere to the inter-module communication protocol (the protocols that is used by modules to communicate with each other). Instead of, FORScan utilizes a special diagnostic familty of protocols that can be used for service and diagnostic purpose only. So, although FORScan can manage actuators, it can be done only in diagnostic mode that is not designed to be used in other conditions that the test/service/diagnostic ones.
