Thanks.
DOH!!

Now if you had asked this right at the beginning and maybe I should have picked up on that? I would probably not have wrote all those posts and in answer to your Question:

YES!

Windows will only install a generic USB to Serial Converter under the windows "Plug and Play"(most of us call it "Plug and Pray") Which if you know how to open your Windows Device Manager to "View Devices by Connection and look for "Serial Devices", "COM Port Devices" or "USB Serial devices" you will probably find a USB to Serial converter that has a Yellow triangle over it!
That is your ELM327, Mocatec, vGate, vLinkerFS, ObdlInk EX, adapter and Windows does not have a driver file installed/Loaded for it( Hence the yellow triangle, no adapter found and They all use the same Driver set) Surprised there was not a link for these drivers on the Mocatec Sales site but it would not surprise me with clone adapters!
It would also not be the first Clone external switched adapter that has a miss wired switch!

That driver set you can find here: https://ftdichip.com/drivers/ Specially at the link Marked "here" https://ftdichip.com/wp-content/uploads ... _Setup.zip!
This contains the Windows Certified FTDI drivers and a Windows installer that you run after you unzip the compressed file with the Windows built in Compressed/ZIP extractor(Right Click the zip file and "Extract")!

After you run that installer(and should do a Windows restart before continuing) make sure your FORScan Connection
(Gear Icon/Connection Tab) type settings are set to either FTDI or COM and the COM settings are set to auto(The FTDI connection setting should grey all this out) Check the "Auto Increase" box and if you are still using the Mocatec switched adapter set HS/MScan support To MSCAN switch! FORScan will ask for the switch to be changed to MSCAN and back if necessary! For all others(EX FS etc.) set it to 'Auto"!

If using the switched adapter make sure you have the switch on HSCAN for all initial connections as FORScan must read the HSCAN network first!

Maybe this will help you get somewhere?

What about this? I get the adapter connected, and I come to a screen where I assume I am supposed to be able to see the as-built data for a module, but I just get a blank screen.

Great you now have a working FORScan and a working vLinker FS adapter!

To answer your second drop box image first: that is the Firmware update process screen for the Vlinker adapter and you would only need to run that if the FS adapter needs a firmware update:(Would need to download the latest firmware file from the vLinker site!)
Read Member Terbo's thread on that here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=21163!
Judging by what I see in your so called "Blank screen" your adapter is working just fine if you got that far!

That"Blank" Page in your Drop box link is Not Blank!! The line at the top marked 730 01 01 With 013A in the white box is the Present existing AsBuilt code FORScan has Read for that particular Power Steering Control Module(PSCM)!

In a 2011 Model Year (M.Y.) Vehicle, that is about what I would expect to see! My 2010 Fusion is similar, only the Code in the White box is slightly different(013B) and this code is original according to My Fusion's VIN, from the factory But there is only one PSCM AsBuilt address and line in these older vehicles!

Look yours up here: https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt May have to chose a Country and Language if this is your first time(Use USA or Canada and English if not in NA), at the first screen and then look under "Site Features" for "Module Build Data(AsBuilt)"!

Have your VIN number handy! If the Original code that returns on the AsBuilt site and the What FORScan read in the 730-01-01 address screen are the same, Great nothing more to do!
If what FORScan read is different then change those characters to the Motorcraft original or alternatively click the "Load Factory AB" button( this process will require a valid WIFI/Internet connection while in the vehicle) and click write and save and you have done all you can do!

Not much more I can help you with as far as this thread is concerned! I would advise you do a lot more reading and research before you do any more than read and clear DTC codes!

Why in this Dropbox photo file (screenshot from a YouTube video) does it show in the screen more data than what I'm working with? I know I have an earlier generation, but it seems like too much more to me.

That image is so blurred out I cannot tell what vehicle they are working on but I suspect it is from a much later model Year and possibly a vehicle with Reverse camera, Trailer Backup assist, Traction control, Auto Start/Stop and/or Adaptive Cruse control! If so there would be many more PSCM AsBuilt Hex addresses in order to turn those functions on/off or control them!
What I can see is that most of the code spaces in the PSCM 730 Hex address spaces in that image are set to Zero 000-000 except the Right hand column(check sum and plays no part in AsBuilt control), Meaning those controllers are "Turned Off and/or not active or this particular vehicle does not have what those Hex spaces would control if this vehicle had those functions!
The two that have "write and restore" buttons(which are Zeroed as well) leads me to believe that those are the only two lines that are actually controlling any thing adjustable or are the only two that can be changed in AsBuilt!

If you did not do what I suggested and I will repeat, with your VIN handy go here: https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt and find out what this truck left the factory with, then I can only suspect that you think you are missing something and FORScan is the reason, which I am pretty sure is not the case!

But until you visit the Motorcraft AsBuilt site and get the Original code for this truck there is no way to be sure! If that original code shows identical to what FORScan actually read then that is all there is in this PSCM and FORScan can't make anything appear that FORD never programmed into the module!

I am not sure what you are expecting to see in your vehicle but if you are using that Youtube image as the standard you are very likely comparing apples and oranges!

That is all I can tell you and unless you come back with that original Motorcraft AsBuilt data I am done discussing this!!

So, do the Hex Addresses tell the PCM what type of pre-installed protocol to use? Is protocol the right word?
