Forscan PATS programming issues.

Post by digitalone »

Hello

As a newbe to this forum I want to firstly thank all those members in advance for all the work you do to help people like me. With that I'm having issues with the software and looking for any help I can get. The issues are as follows.

Firstly I'm using :( the recommended ODB link ex connected to my laptop via USB noted as com3. I'm attempting to program two new key fobs chips to the already two factory keys I have. The two new keys were purchased on Amazon and apparently are chip programmable. I have no problem connecting to the vehicle and starting the programming however it gets to about 70% and I get a popup indicating that the PCM has indicated success however the number of keys haven't updated and to try cycling the key off/on and to access the PATS again to see if the number of keys has updated and each time it hasn't. Still only two keys.

The second issue is that now it seems that when I try now I get the following dialogue box indicating that "security access denied" and I have no idea Why?

I thought this would be a simple process however I'm not getting the results I figured I'd get.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It sounds like maybe those new keys aren’t any good, some of the cheap copies work ok and some don’t at all.
For me usually when it says “number of keys hasn’t risen, go out and check again”, I do and the new keys are there. I think getting keys or chips from a known good source might solve it.
Although if you now can’t access pats then I’m not sure how you’d change anything without reprogramming or replacing the module. I do know if the wrong incode is entered too many times you get locked out. Hopefully others can help you get back into pats.

More information please: such as what vehicle and Model Year, Key type as in Flat PATS Key, Integrated Key transmitter(IKT) or Intelligent Access(Push Button start)? Is the security assess Coded(Out Code/In code) or 10 minuet timed? What Module service procedure is pats located in, IPC or PCM?

Your signature indicates you are working on a 2008 Escape but if so then the PATS control should be in the IPC and if a 2007 then it would be located in the PCM if this is a North American market Escape and would be Timed access in both cases!

Euro Market Escape/Kuga could be coded but I only have access to NA market literature for the Escape!

I have no idea what is causing your "Security access denied" error as I have never seen that happen with timed access. It has been known to happen on Coded Access however if the in code fails too many times.

The usual reason that Key counts do not advance with a "Pats Success" message, is because one or more of the keys being added in the program attempt are copies of either each other or are copies of one of the keys already in memory. This seems a stretch I know, but it has happened and I have had personal experience with this one. Have had a vehicle with four working keys(That start the vehicle but I no longer own it) but only two in memory programmed with that PATS success message but no advance in key count and blanks were obtained from an Ebay seller!

Do the Added keys now start the vehicle after the Success message? If they do then you have two cloned/copied keys that apparently are both a copy of one already in memory! Again rare but not impossible(this member has experienced this)!

FORScan has related that this Clone/Copied key transponder no Key count advance problem, is the major PATS Support request that they get!

If you are just adding keys and have two keys in hand that currently start the Escape, North American Ford has way to add keys in either of those years without using Diagnostic equipment and I will attach a PDF of the process below!

Not saying the Ford 2 key method will be successful either in advancing the key count if the keys are not currently starting the vehicle and they happen to be cloned.

This is why I have always advocated going to the dealer and getting Ford Key blanks! You usually Get what you pay for with these things.

The EX Adapter is probably the Best of the lower priced adapters for this purpose so cannot see this being an adapter issue!

Thanks for the reply
I believe you may be correct in the keys being junk. Next step is the purchase a new key from anyone other than Amazon. Rockauto here I come.

The vehicle is a 2008 Ford Escape Limited V6 3.0 litre with an integrated Key transmitters. No Out code/in code uses the 12 minute timed. The module service is located in PATS.

Your signature indicates you are working on a 2008 Escape but if so then the PATS control should be in the IPC and if a 2007 then it would be located in the PCM if this is a North American market Escape and would be Timed access in both cases!

I tried again once I read your detailed response which I must say was great and thanks for that. I'm no longer locked out. Could have been because of a low battery voltage or having my charger attached to the battery.

The unprogrammed Keys do not start the car when I get the success message.

FORScan has related that this Clone/Copied key transponder no Key count advance problem, is the major PATS Support request that they get!

Thanks for that report.

Thanks, those instructions are similar to all the others I have tryed. Non of which have actually properly programmed the keys even though I get the PATS success popup.

No kidding I'm beginning to believe the keys are the problem and will be returning them. I'll get the new ones from either ford or Rockauto who I use alot for repairs I do.

The EX Adapter is probably the Best of the lower priced adapters for this purpose so cannot see this being an adapter issue!

I have other Foxcon ODBII readers however the EX was the one that Forscan recommended over the wifi ELM327 ODBII I also have.
