Issue of recognizing new Ford models by FORScan

Post by FORScan »

FORScan must identify the car (model, engine and year) it order to work with it properly. There is a problem of adding newest models to FORScan database. These are being permanently added, but new versions of FORScan are issued once per 1-2 months, and this is too much for some users who want to have their new car connected immediately. In order to resolve this type of problems, recent versions of FORScan have new "automated database update" feature.

The idea of the update feature is: in case if FORScan applications is unable to recognize the car, it requests FORScan server that keeps up-to-date cars' database updated on daily basis. If such a car already added, FORScan application will be able to identify it immediately and/or guide the user. Otherwise, FORScan application will submit the report to the developers. If everything is OK, we add the car to the database as soon as possible (usually in no more than 24 hours, but in some cases it may take up to few days).

Below you will find a step by step guide that explains how it works and what FORScan messages mean:

Step 1. Car is not recognized, FORScan offers to request for database updates:

Image

You have to press Yes to request the update.

Attention! If you see this dialog instead of the above:

Image

It means that the Update functionailty hasn't fired. Possible reasons:
- Oudated version of FORScan is used (the Update feature was fully added in v2.3.63);
- FORScan doesn't recognize this PCM as Ford stock one. The Update feature doesn't work for Mazda and tuned Ford PCMs.

If you have tuned Ford PCM, please follow this guide. If you have Mazda 7G, please check this article.

Step 2 Way 1. This version of FORScan is outdated:

You have to update FORScan to the latest official release from our site and try again.

Step 2 Way 2. This car is already added to the database and this model is supported by the current version of FORScan application

In this case FORScan will just recognize the car and continue to work as usually.

Note: It is important to save the vehicle profile at the end of connection procedure, when FORScan offers it. As soon as the profile is saved, FORScan will be able recognize the car on subsequent connections without requesting server.

Step 2 Way 3. This car is already reported to development team but not added to the database yet:

Image

You have to check the updates in 24 hours as advised, there is nothing more your can do. Please do not write to support until at least 24 hours have passed.

Step 2 Way 4. This car is added to the database, but this model is not supported by the current version of FORScan application:

Image

In this case you have to wait for next release. Paid users can requires intermediate (test) builds in bounds of engineering support.

Step 2 Way 5. Development team is unable to add the car to the database and requires additional information:

Image

If you get this message, please contact FORScan support team.

Step 2 Way 6. Car is not supported:

Image

This happens if the PCM number has format similar to Ford, but not Ford and will not be supported (Volvo, Land Rover, JAC etc).

Step 2 Way 7. Something else is wrong:

Image

This happens in case when the car cannot be added to FORScan database (for example, tuned PCM).

Make sure you have installed the latest FORScan version & follow the very clear steps above. Try to connect again in a few days.

I just purchased a 2020 police Interceptor Utility and when I try to use Forscan I get the following error message: "Unable to connect to vehicle. Please make sure the ignition is on and try again"

I have a 2024 F250 with the 7.3L gas engine. I'm using FS ver.65. Forscan has worked great on this truck. I installed a Whipple supercharger and the first step is to download the OEM map and send it to Whipple who in turns sends it to Ford and Ford creates a new performance map based off my vin. Whipple sends it back and after the install, the new map is loaded into the truck and it runs great. I hook up FS and get a box that says I need a code for the pcm as it doesn't recognize the new map. I emailed Whipple and they sent me the code to enter. I fire up FS and to my surprise, it works like before and I didn't have to enter the new pcm code. Why is that? Could it be reading the old OEM code, I hope not?

Whipple might have provided the code to FORScan or someone else has had the same problem & entered the code, therefore updating the details on the FORScan server

Are 2025 Bronco Raptors supported?
Namely, the idle time limit needs to be turned off.
