Touble running FORScan on ubuntu 14.04

Post by mule2014 »

Hello I am new to both FORScan and ubuntu. I got FORScan downloaded and running with wine. The obd2 cable i got (elm 327 v1.5) will not be recoginzed. I read and went through the steps on the 'how to run FORScan on linux' topic here and I still get a 'no elm found. please check connection and try again' message. Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to run diagonstics on my 2003 excursion 6.0 powerstroke.

We would be happy to advise something, but the problem is that Linux is not officially supported OS for the project and we have no necessary expertise on it. But generally, we would advise the following:

1. First, please make sure the OS is able to see your ELM327 and find the COM port created by OS for this device.
2. Make sure the ELM is working and answering: connect to the COM port using some terminal and send ATI command. ELM327 should answer with name and version of the adapter. It means adapter is connected and ready to work.
3. Run FORScan and select exactly the same COM port and baud rate setting you used to connect to ELM on the step 2. Try to connect again.

We are pretty sure that if these 3 steps are executed successfully, FORScan should be able to see your ELM.

Just in case (as far as we understand, you have read it already), here is the link to Linux article:

my OS does see the elm 327 cable and I have run through the steps in that post. I have posted the same question on the ubuntu ask forum to try and get experts from both sides but as of yet this was the first response. My other computer with both windows and ubuntu is with the i.t. guy at my work getting fixed. I will probably just wait untill i get that one back then i should have no problems. I am just trying to go completly with liunx/ubuntu and it it proving to be a little work. I'll get it figured out eventually. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
