Ford BA Falcon PCM VID edit

Post by jhaynes85 »

Hi Team.
I've been a beta-tester for Forscan for a decade now, and I've finally come across a problem I need help with.

My vehicle had a serious failure fault with the PCM. It just entered a permanent immobiliser mode, and nothing I did would fix it. So after a lot of discussions with a wrecker, they sent me a used PCM but the numbers didn't exactly match. So the car now starts but the gear selector flashes in the instrument cluster and the computer sets a code p0500 (VSS speed sensor). I've been told I need to modify the PCM VID to set the right VSS source.

3R23-12A650-AE
32AE - ABU-212
Strategy: HAANGL6

The wreckers sent me the following:

3R23-12A650-AAC
A3AC - ABU-242
Strategy - HAANCC6

I need help ASAP as I need the car to get my sick mother to and from medical appointments.

I need your assistance on how to get this done. I have to get my mother to hospital and medical appointments and need help ASAP.

Please help me.

Hey, I think you just need to find the file name from the original pcm using forscan. You'll need to put that pcm back in first then get the file name. If I have it I'll post it up for you to download.

If your not familiar with programming the files to the car then I suggest you get started reading the forum how to stickies as they are very important and informative.

To achieve your goal you need the following,
1). Know how to program file
2). Have paid license
3). Get file name from old pcm and post it up here.
4). Get file from me, another person or via forscan download.
5). Flash file to car then test.

I saw you were advised on Facebook that the PCM you have will work with that calibration. The bloke is an expert, so you should have contacted him.
You were also advised you need to buy a vLinker FS USB cable. You will need to have a current paid licence & 2.4.19beta installed.
Enter the VID block programming & change the speed source to match what was on the original PCM. Programming will move onto MFU where you can download the required files using the download button & then complete the programming. Keep in mind that if you stuff up, you have an erased PCM or partially programmed PCM that might appear as though it's not communicating

Hi All.

I appreciate all your replies.

Firstly, I have downloaded the beta version of the software and already have a paid extended licence. I've now ordered the specific OBD tool and that is due to me on Wednesday or Thursday.

Secondly, all I've been told are the broad strokes and not the detailed steps. This is why I'm going to a many sources as possible to ensure I've got all the possible information.

I find it a bit disappointing that even 3 businesses I have approached in Western Sydney, couldn't even bother to return a call to advise they could or couldn't do the job.

All I need is some help and guidance.

Thank You.

Hi John, it's pretty simple if you have the decade long beta testing experience you claim to have.
In addition to the information previously provided you only need to follow the FORScan promps.
Make sure you have installed the device drivers & confirmed the vLinker FS is running the latest firmware. If it's not, it's a simple process to update it. The instructions are provided with the device & also on their website.

Hi Mate.

I just installed the latest beta version and I can now see the PCM VID settings.

Would you recommend the USB or Bluetooth Vlinker FS OBD2 cable, or the more expensive OBDX Pro FT J2534 one?

I really do appreciate your assistance. All the BETA testing I have done has been PATS related, hence why I'm asking all these questions.

Thanks.

The decision around which cable to buy will depend on how much money you want to spend & whether you ever want to be able to use the device with other software.
The vLinker FS USB cable is better than the bluetooth device because it's a wired connection. It works with FORScan & not much else.
The OBDX ProFT works with FORScan, PCMtec & various other software, so is my pick of the 2.
You need to decide how much you want to spend & whether you want to be able to use the device with other software.

I just stuck with the OBDX Pro FT, as it seemed to be the best all-rounder and could be useful in the future.
It's arriving tomorrow sometime.

I also chose that one as in case this PCM VID edit doesn't work, I can have someone with a PCMTEC software licence assist me remotely.

You shouldn't need to use anything other than FORScan. If you can't program it with FORScan, it would indicate there's a problem with the new PCM, incorrect cable settings or user error. Don't let some fool make you think otherwise, just so they can make money charging you to do it with tuning software.

I have PCMtec & don't use it for VID edits or stock programming. It's a waste of money to use it when FORScan works.
I would have programmed 100+ BA-FGX PCM's with FORScan. A lot of those have been done via remote connection when a user isn't confident with the process.

Hey Mate.

This is why I've been asking so many questions in different places, as different people tell me different things. I cannot afford to screw this modification up.

If I get stuck, would you be available to remotely dial into my laptop and assist me? I'm happy to pay for your time.
