20' Explorer gear shifter locked after changes help!

Post by FLMtnMan »

Was feeling pretty good my very first time hooking the laptop and FORscan into my 20' Ford Explorer for a few MINOR CHANGES in the BCM module until I discovered the gear shifter knob is locked in park and won't shift out of it, (nothing crazy that I can see I'm doing wrong). And I'm "treading on thin ice" now after 30 minutes with the key on I'm getting the dreaded charge battery soon prompt, (original battery).
I made the following changes, (after I'd first saved my "as built"-that I also tried to reload/upload with no change).
1) disabled the double horn honk.
2) enabled the electric charging port.
3) enabled drl with parking lights
4) enabled drl with fog lamps
5) enabled hi & low beams with fog lamps
6) disabled auto start/stop

What could I have possible changed to have it locked in park and where do I go to get it unlocked please?!
Only vehicle with health issues so pretty important I get it mobile again.

Check to see that the brake lights work.

Brake lights work fine. Tried unhooking the negative battery post overnight, did not change anything. Tried uploading my "as built" that I'd saved when I first hooked up FORscan to the Explorer with no change, (not positive that's uploading as it's not giving me the "turn ignition off then back on" prompt.
No DTC codes stored when I hook up my aftermarket code scanner but I have a bunch of yellow caution flags on FORscan, (if I can figure out how to upload those pics here).

Manually compare the as built data you saved with the data Forscan displays. You may have to change data manually. You can also download the factory as built data from the Motorcraft website as a comparison also.

After uploading did you do the "write all" process, then play button?
You can also try the load factory AB? Same, load them first then write all, then the play button.

Don I'm pretty sure my download from the FordService website, (using my VIN) is not uploading as it's not populating in my drop down menu of choices. Is it possible I'm not saving it to the right place when downloading? TIA!

Omar, I'm not getting to that prompt to "write". I have to be doing something wrong at the download point, (my Ford Service VIN download is not showing up as an option in the drop down menu).
I'll try to upload that image from my phone.

Woohoo I found and corrected the issue this morning!
APIM section>BdyCM module>Electric charging port>DISABLE!!!👍

I'd forgotten that I enabled that thinking it may be why my 110VAC receptacle wasn't working properly!
It appears it's probably a "dummy proof" if my Platinum were a hybrid or EV to keep someone from driving off while plugged into a charger?

Congratulations. I was never going to guess that :D

Now you understand why it's important to go slow and be careful making changes. Ideally change one or two items at a time....AND don't experiment with settings you are not sure what they do.

Now go for a very satisfying and stress relieving drive!
