Keyfob programming (solution)

Post by vanduara37 »

I was wondering if it is possible to programm a replacement key fob 2014 Transit custom.
I purchased a replacement from Amazon and have successfully programmed the key to start the van with a diagnostic tool of mine, however the functions on the remote do not work when pressing. Is there a method of programming the remote only using Forscan ?

Thanks.

Looking at this Video ... Your new key may not be the right one... By that I mean the Remote Part.

But you could also try this method:

For a 2014 Ford Transit Custom, you can often program key fobs using the ignition cycle method (OFF to RUN 8 times quickly, ending in RUN, then pressing buttons) for basic functions, but more advanced models or adding transponder keys may need a professional tool due to encrypted systems, so try the manual method first, ensuring you have all fobs present and ending in the RUN position to enter programming mode, then press buttons and cycle ignition off to finish.

Thanks for the info appreciate it.
I have tried all the manual options like key cycling etc but with no joy. As the new key was programmed successfully should the remote have been successfully been programmed at the same time ? if so then you are probably correct that the fob is not compatable , was an aftermarket from Amazon.

IKT or Integrated Key Head Transmitters will only program the RKE functions at the same time as PATS programming is performed!

However there is only room for four RKE fobs, either IKT or separate RKE Three or Four button fobs. The 8 key sequence will erase two separate fobs(Three or Four button fobs without the ignition Key) and allow programming of two separate fobs but will not erase and program two or any IKT fobs!

Pats Keys can have up to 8 keys in memory!

If there are Four or more IKT PATS keys/fobs in Memory already the only way to add an additional or any IKT fobs is to perform a full PATS erase and reprogram all PATS keys!

Run the BCM/GEM or IPC pids(NUMKEYS) for the number of PATS keys in memory(depending on which module is controlling PATS)! PATS memory can contain up to 8 IKT or conventional key signatures but only Four IKT fobs or Conventional RKE fobs will be functional!

The BCM PIDs should have a PID called "#_REMOTES"(Number of Programmed Transmitters) that lists the number of RKE transmitters in Memory!

That may or may not be of help?

Some great information there thanks very much.
I’ll certainly give this a go, my only concern is when doing a full key erase can you re use the keys you have or need to get new un programmed keys. Also apprehensive if procedure fails I’m left with a non starting van.

Your existing keys are usable/programmable! It requires two keys in order for a successful PATS programming and as many as 8 can be programmed during a session!
You posted in your original post that you added a key so you have had some success in PATS programming! I suspect though the tool you used probably utilized the Vehicles Spare key programming feature rather than full PATS but that is just my speculation!

If PATS exists As a Service procedure in the Wrench Icon under the BCM for this Transit, (Transit PATS appears to be controlled in the BCM according to the W/S Manual), as a service Procedure in FORScan, it is or should be fully available!
The process is likely to be an online Coding procedure( security access Out code to In code calculated by an online server) so it will require a PAID one year FORScan license and a good stable Internet connection while in the vehicle!

Once the security access is gained(successful in code applied from the out code) you should have a list of programming choices the first of which should be "Erase All keys"!
The second choice should be "Key Programming"! These two processes can and should be done with one security access!

Do not allow the process to time out(10 seconds with the key off elapsing between keys will time out the security access and you will have to start all over again)

Hope that helps?

Update on this issue.
I followed all procedures as advised ( erased all keys, reprogrammed all keys) everything works except the keyfob on the new remote (starts engine ok but will not open or close doors) so i am thinking it is an issue with the fob as it is not a genuine Ford key but a replacement bought from Amazon.
What are thoughts on this please ?

Purchased a second hand genuine Ford remote key fob from eBay , proceded exactly as before with Forscan add key process and both immo and remote now working, so apparently amazon clones can have immo programmed but not remote, some remotes can be added mechanically with ignition on/off procedures but the article below explains how some early customs cannot, or with alternative scanners.
Hope this helps some in the future.

"Assuming that you are working on an early MK8 euro transit AND that the key you have added is an aftermarket clone (i.e NOT a BK2T with the usual TI 37F158LF inside).

In these early MK8s (UK 14-16, White OBD port), Ford made a configuration change in the BCM settings that disables the ability to add a remote by cycling the ignition. The routines are still there but a single flag in the BCM configuration prevents this.

Using Autel, if you select the "Ford - Europe - Transit - 2014-1016 Blade Key", you will only get Immobiliser(CAN) in the Control Unit settings.

If however you select "Ford - Asia - Transit - 2015-2019 Blade Key" , in the Control Unit settings you will get an additonal option of "Remote System(CAN)"

Select this and it will enable the single flag in your BCM settings that will allow you to cycle in after market remotes."

I have just programmed a new key for my 2015 transit custom from eBay that now works fine to start engine but none of the buttons work. I was assured that it is the correct type of key fob. I have tried the ignition on/off 8 times but doesn't seem to work. I have just read your post where you say,

"Using Autel, if you select the "Ford - Europe - Transit - 2014-1016 Blade Key", you will only get Immobiliser(CAN) in the Control Unit settings.

If however you select "Ford - Asia - Transit - 2015-2019 Blade Key" , in the Control Unit settings you will get an additonal option of "Remote System(CAN)"

Can you clarify what Autel is? and how do I change the control unit settings to Asia so I can try the manual on/off 8 times? I have the paid licence for Forscan.

Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Thank You
