2013 focus ABS lost communications problems

Post by nmckethen »

I've got a 13 focus 2.0 (70k miles) and am the midst of replacing TCM unit with a new oem part. I downloaded the settings out of the original TCM then followed all the steps to program firmware over to the new unit. Once programming was complete I went through the relearning steps. The programming/relearning went smooth all green throughout completion. Then turning on the vehicle, I've got dash lights on including; brake light, ABS light, trac control, trac control off.

I've checked the TCM wiring harness, checked ground cables, fuses, ABS sensors and am finding nothing abnormal. Reading the list of DTC codes most of them relate to the loss of communications with modules such as; U0121 ABS, U0151 restraint control module, U0154 restraints occupants, U0140 body control, etc...

While running tests directed to ABS module, I get an error. I'm thinking reprogramming the ABS is worth trying to see if that will solve the communications problems. Problem with that is forscan gives me 5 hardware numbers to program from. All numbers are BV61-2C405 but suffix letters at the end are; AL, BJ, CA, EA, ZA. The ABS pump part number is buried so I haven't been able to pull the exact matching part off of it. Is it worth attempting to program the module while not knowing for sure the suffix letter?

Any help is much appreciated.

I think your getting ahead of yourself tbh.
Have you tried calibrating anything within the abs that may have been upset with the tcm change?
The abs may need to learn or calibrate something.
A list of the fault codes and the full description of what comes with them would help.
Communication errors can be caused by a lot of things, we can cross that bridge if or when we get there.

And have you checked the fuses?, all of them?

Have you tried clearing the codes. Many times when a module is updated you will get communication errors in other modules.

I was able to find an old vehicle profile record on this focus which had all the ABS specs. Once I had those specs, it was easy to update firmware with the #'s which enabled me to re-program the ABS module back to it's original settings. After this download/program was complete EVERYTHING works like new. The ABS getting wiped must have been a bi-product from flashing the new TCM unit. Thanks for your insight on this! Hope this post will help someone in similar situation down the road! Cheers!!
