2017 F250 Cant get radio hard buttons to work after Sync 3 Update

Greetings - hope you can help me out.

Updated my 2017 F250 base model (no sync, no bluetooth, no backup camera) to Sync 3 using Ebay parts and 4DTech Harness. Got the following working
-All audio
-GPS/Nav
-Bluetooth
-Android Auto
-Steering Wheel Controls (Lariat wheel installed)
-HVAC
-Volume and tuning knob
-Factory backup camera
-No DTCs or error codes present in any module


Note - still using the original CD player audio controller, dash buttons and APIM were pulled from running vehicle.

I cant get the hard buttons under the screen to work. They either give the wrong action or no action.

I found a VIN of a similar truck (2017 XLT Gas with 8" screen) and used that to get my APIM, steering wheel controls, and loaded the as-builts for the radio and dash control modules from that VIN.

Any thoughts?

Update on this -

APIM is version 3.4 and it is a MY20 APIM. I have run through every tutorial I can find and still no luck getting the FCIM buttons to respond properly on the 8" screen retrofitted to a 2017 F250 that originally did not have Sync (no microphone, no bluetooth). All other features work properly.

If I use my 4" screen FCIM, the track buttons work but the 5 way controls do not.

I have tried updating the ACM, IPCM, FCIM, Steering wheel module, and APIM to 2017 as-builts, 2019 as-builts, and 2021 as-builts from similar vehicles using Cars.com to find a VIN, downloading the as-builts, and updating in Forscan. After the updates I reset the modules and relearn them to the BCM but never see improvements.

Currently what I am experiencing is the hard buttons on the 2020 FCIM are not mapped correctly. Upper left makes the radio mute, lower left is calm screen. Track forward and back do not work. None of these functions are actually on the 2020 FCIM, so there is some communication issue.


I was watching the 4DTech installation video on youtube to see if I missed anything and all I see different is they used a 2017-2018 FCIM with the CD player slot, I have been using a 2020 FCIM with no CD player slot.

I have a 2017 FCIM with the CD player slot coming from Ebay, wondering if that is my issue.

I am still using the original 2017 F250 base model ACM.

A user on CyanLabs forum suggested updating the FCIM firmware, I am going to check that this morning and will report back.

If you are adding Sync 3 to a 2017-2018 F-series, reccommed using a 2017-2018 FCIM JL3T-18E243-CDJ (with CD slot)
I was using KC3T-18E243-APC (no CD slot)

Plugged in the FCIM with a CD slot and problem went away.
