Ford Fiesta MK6 1.4TDCi DTC Confusion

Post by turbozob »

Hello gentlemen,

today I have connected to Ford Fiesta 2008 1.4TDCi with ELM 327 1.5a, read the fault codes and got following:
P0504 - Brake Switch A/B Correlation
P1412 - EGR Valve Frozen (the P1412 is recorded twice, I do not know why)
So the fault codes were found but the check engine light was off, although the information in DTC was "Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC"

Then I reset the faults and made PCM test there were no faults and I made PCM again and the faults were back.
I checked the fault with program "scanmaster" and it did not detected any faults.

I am now confused are the faults for real or not, since also engine light is off? Does anybody understand what is going on?

Thanks

As far as we understand, Fiesta 2008 is Fiesta Mk7, if so it has latest generation of PCM. This type of PCM displays not only DTC code, but also sub-code and status. The same DTC can be recorded twice with a different sub-code and/or status code.

Yes, the MIL is OFF for this DTC, and FORScan says it is OFF. so what is the confusion?

It most likely mean that the DTCs re-appeared because source of them (the problem itself) is not resolved.

Scanmaster only reads OBDII codes, it means that codes that are not emission related may not be registered by OBDII at all. FORScan reads all codes registered by all modules (same as dealership scanner).

Not all codes set the MIL check, in fact only errors that significantly affect engine functions will set the MIL. Non-critical errors almost never do it.

We can check FORScan operations on your vehicle, to make sure it is not a bug in FORScan or ELM327 problems (ELM327 v1.5a sounds like a china clone of fair ELM327 v1.2, it may not work smooth on latest gen models), If you email us internal FORScan logs as described on Contact Us page, we will check it.

Thank you very much for the good explanation. The Fiesta is Mk6 but the 1st registration was 04.08.2008 so I do not know, maybe the last production line... The fact is that if ForScan shows fault then the faults are present, great.
My ELM327 bought 3years ago on DealExtreme.com I did not had any problems with it on oither cars, I recently ordered BAFX ELM Bluetooth, everyone recommends it.

I will check for FORScan logs and send it.

Thank you
