Known problems with china clones of ELM327

My clone of the ELM 327 worked initially. Before I modified it, it reported information off of the HS CAN bus and OBD data. After my initial modification, it reported MS CAN information as well. However the switch I used was too big so I changed it to a smaller switch and now Forscan reports it is a "Bad clone" and it does not work at all. The 'AT' commands listed in this post all return non-error results. The pins and wires have proper continuity from the connector to the PIC chip controller when tested with a meter, in both switch positions.

I think my modification must be the first change to look at. Is there a specific 'AT' command or test I can do to confirm communication with the MSCAN or HSCAN bus? Is there a way to bypass Forscan's proclamation that it is a bad clone so I can continue to test it?

I rewired my ELM327 clone modification and the unit works properly now. Forscan only returns one unknown command in the log. Is there any way to tell which command is unknown?

with Forscan, I tried 2.36beta, 2.25beta and 2.28beta but each time ended up with the same response from FORscan.

I am going to return this unit and am looking at getting another unit through Ebay that is said to be for Aussie cars.
I have a 2003 BA Falcon and just want to programme my keys for it and this cheapie one isn't going to do it so,
will this USB one from Ebay be a better buy? it says it has been modified and is for Ford/Mazda.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I agree with the first post. I have bought two adapters some years ago and they work great still.
Starting with last year I keep trying to buy another adapter, tried 4 different types, and none of them cannot read Ford protocols anymore. Some might work in a Hyundai Sonata (ISO protocol), but with issues (not reading all the sensors correctly, like the MAF).

I have an ELM327 I just bought that uses bluetooth only and it keeps stopping when FORscan tries to read the ACM module. It read it successfully once. I was able to change a few parameters but now it keeps crashing when trying to read the ACM and will not initiate module programming anymore. I only had this thing for 2 hours. Is there a link to reliable ECM327 sellers? Or should I just buy an OBDLink MX? Thanks!

Nevermind, solved my own issue by buying an OBDLink MX bluetooth. I should have looked at this post before buying a bluetooth ELM327.

A note here: Don't buy the OBDLink MX wi-fi as some buddies of mine said it's barely working with FORscan for them. I highly recommend the OBDLink MX bluetooth and directly from the manufacturer.

I wrote a ELM327 tester that cycles through most of the commands to see what works.
There are some commands that are not tested but should give a good indication on what commands are available.
Although it might be fine (perhaps someone with more experience than I can answer), please do not run while attached to a car. This means that only certain USB connected devices should be tested for now.
