Rear Camera Calibration

Post by endoracing »

I purchased a replacement rear camera in hopes it would fix my intermittent connectivity issues but when I plug it in I get the attached image on my backup screen. The dealer I purchased it from claims it must be programmed to the vehicle to work at all but everything I have read is that calibration is only for the rear lines. Can anyone confirm that a replacement camera should still produce video on the screen without programming? Also if it does require something is that what the "rear cam calibration" procedure performs?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff Schultz

I install Backup cameras for a living and in my opinion that looks like either a bad camera or a problem in the wiring. If it Shows the camera image when you put it in reverse the calibration is correct.

The camera input Is a very simple composite video much like connecting any dvd player that has a yellow rca connector to your tv at home. If the camera is new I would suspect a problem in the wiring. Looks like a bad V- to me..
