Cluster Swap Question

Post by apoligo »

Hello

I am interested in some information about the programming of an instrument cluster we have a 2014 F-150 STX with the 3.7 in it. It came with the digital cluster and I would like to switch it out for the LCD cluster the issue is I have never seen a 3.7 with the cluster I have only the 5.0 in the STX with that cluster, so my thought is can it be done. Obviously the AS BUILT data will need to be rewritten but my question is does this simply tell the cluster the level of truck Ie 4x4, 3.73 or 3.55 ECT. Does the ECM just blindly send engine info to the cluster or is the cluster engine specific. I am also wondering because the part #'s for the clusters are so similar most only have the suffix as a change. Could it be as simple as just transferring my as built data from one cluster into the other?

I did the exact same swap because I have the exact same truck. If you haven't bought the cluster yet, make sure you get one that has things like the gears on the side as not all of them have it. I got one from a 2011 XLT. But the easiest way to do everything in one simple swoop is to get a digipro with the chip adapter. It'll run you about $150. You remove the back cover from bother clusters and you basically copy the data from you original cluster to the new one. You may have to do it twice. But it copies everything even the mileage. My truck had 31xxx miles and the cluster I bought had 69xxx, but afterwards they were identical, minus the fact that its was a very nice upgrade to the truck. The downside is there are features in the cluster that you may or may not have. I added the factory remote start. In the old cluster i only had the time and honk, in the new cluster I has things like climate control. I don't have the fancy center console so it doesn't apply to me. Oh well, like I said, the cluster still looks good.
