Can't read fuel rail pressure (Mondeo MK4)

Post by RuneG »

A couple months ago my car started to make a ticking noise at idle, and seems to hestitate when i accelerate from idle to 1200-1300 rpm.
It seems to be a fuel related issue, probably a bad injector, since I've checked all other obvious problem sources. Next thing I will do is an injector leak off test.
Anyway, due to this problem i bought myself a Vgate icar2 interface, and installed ForScan. First impression is that it is an excellent software.

My only problem is that I can't read my fuel rail pressure. I can read all other data, and do tests, read/erase DTC.
I even tried using other free OBD software, and also manually ask for fuel pressure related PID's.

Anyone experienced this?

Isn't it possible to read the fuel rail pressure on the Mondeo? It is a 2007 model, 2.0 tdci mk4, with 235000 km.

Fuel Rail pressure PID on Mondeo Mk4 must be available in FORScan. If it is missing, it is very odd. We recommend to make sure last version of FORScan is used. Then remove vehicle profile and try to reconnect. FORScan checks the vehilce configuration on the first connect only, so if the FRP pid wasn't read for some reason (adapter, network or application fault), it will not try it anymore and will not suggest this PID.

I am using ForScan 2.2.3. I tried to remove vehicle profile and reconnect. But I still don't get fuel rail pressure. It's in the list of PID's, but it shows no value. I can read all other PID's.
I notice that when ForScan connects to the car, it connects to the PCM, but I get a warning that ForScan can't read DTC's. When I open the DTC folder I am able to read and delete warnings from PCM.
Think I will try to disconnect the battery and see if it helps, maybe its an issue with the PCM module. I would guess that if the rail pressure sensor is broken the car would not start at all, and that you would get a DTC.

What does it mean - "no value"? Do you mean zero value?

This sounds like an adapter problem, but still doesn't explain the issue with FRP.

It is very not likely that there are any problems with PCM. PCM is very reliable unit and the last thing to suspect.

Can you please email us internal FORcan logs (dump.bin and FORScan.log) as described on Contact Us page?

"No value" mean that it is blank. I think its strange, since there is no fault code for the fuel rail pressure.
It could ofcourse be a adapter problem, since I have the same problem with other diagnostic software. So I really dont think it is a ForScan problem.
But if it is an adapter problem, wouldn't I most likely have the same problem with other PID's from the PCM?

I wonder if anyone has experienced that they have a faulty sensor without getting a fault code? Is that possible?
PS! I wont be able to send any internal log files at the moment, because of work, but I will send them to you when I get home.

This sounds really strange, so we strongly recommend to do perform any further FRP diagnostic (with FORScan) until we understand what is going on. We will be looking forward for additional information (such as program logs as described above)

Seems to be the same issue discussed here:

We have PM'ed you a test version to test the fix.
