2001 au falcon BEM and instrument cluster errors

Post by JASTech »

Hi all I have a 2001 au falcon that wont start. the only errors from the modules are
instrument cluster
B1201 fuel gauge sender open circuit or short circuit to positive
C1781 The next patch for this release is not on the floppy disk
B2682 EEC (PCM) communication fault

Body Electronic Module
Unable to read DTC

The PCM successfully read with no errors
Key codes and key were successfully checked by a locksmith with his scantool

This state occurred overnight, no flat battery, no accident, just no start. Any ideas as to a fix will be greatly appreciated

First of all, we would recommend to check the DTC output, as the DTC C1781 looks weird. It may be wrong reading from the module, so does make sense to check. We can do it if you send us FORScan internal logs as described on Contact Us page (2 files needed, dump.bin and FORScan.log). Please send by email or PM, do not post them on forume.

Second, if the above DTCs are correct, it may mean contact problems between IC and PCM (for example because of IC jack oxidation of soldered contacts, it is quite a popular issue on some models, not sure about Falcons).

Third, it may be a PATS problem (may be in conjunction with the "second" problem above). We are not sure about PATS organization on this model. If it is dual/distributed (both IC and PCM are involved), then it is quite possible. We will be able to say after getting logs.

Fourth, if starter works but engine doesn't start, it may be simply a mechanical issue like problems with ignition, wires or fuel.

Hi There

I have a 2000 AU Fairmont Ghia dual fuel.

Being on dual fuel - the only issues I get are
PCM P0201 - Cylinder 1 Injector Circuit Malfunction
PCM P0202 - Cylinder 2 Injector Circuit Malfunction
PCM P0203 - Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Malfunction
PCM P0204 - Cylinder 4 Injector Circuit Malfunction
PCM P0205 - Cylinder 5 Injector Circuit Malfunction
PCM P0206 - Cylinder 6 Injector Circuit Malfunction
PCM P1221 - Ford Traction Control System Malfunction (nfi why but the traction control is dead on my dashboard too, so it really is some kind of a problem...)
Subwoofer issue (I took it out to fit the LPG tank)

But I do get the "unable to read codes" on the bem too. I thought my BEM might be failing but now that I know someone else gets the same error, I can be a bit less worried :). Is there any way I can help to get into these BEM's?

As it was found, BEM module on these models doesn't support continuous monitoring DTCs (standard DTC reporting function used by FORScan when you try to read DTC). We suspect the BEM DTCs are reported through Instrument Cluster.

Hi All
it appears that either the BEM or the EEC is not allowing communications and apparently the answer is to replace the BEM, EEC and the key lock and barrel. This is great if you can find a complete set with keys that actually suits your vehicle. Most petrol sets will actually get you moving, however mine is factory gas and they aren't real easy to find. I have found a working BEM and EEC but the key as been lost, is it possible to program 2 new keys to the system with the Forscan software on a PC and does anyone have any experience with this

Not yet, but we are going to implement this function soon.

Here's a list of AU2 specific PIDS I have (not 100% sure on the accuracy), unfortunately the ones you have aren't on the list. Not sure whether forscan supports/knows about all of these?

PID - parameter ID.
DTC - diagnostic trouble code

The list you attached is list of specific DTCs, not PIDs. The first letters means type of code:

Powertrain ("P") codes (engine, transmission and emissions systems)
Body ("B") codes (Climate control system, lighting, airbags, etc.)
Chassis ("C") codes (antilock brake system, electronic suspension and steering systems)
Network Communications ("U") codes (controller area network wiring bus and modules)

FORScan does support these codes, so it shows them if some of Falcon modules throws these.

Is this a bug, I occasionally see this DTC too reported by the IC. Seems like a bogus description

Yes, this seems to be a content bug, we have fixed it. Right description sounds like "Engine coolant temperature signal missing / fault"
