Hi guys and many thanks for the program and forum. Is there any news yet on the version 2 documentation yet ? or an estimate when it will be available ?
Thanks and keep up the great work...

Re: Documentation
Documentation development task has background priority because of lack of resoruces. So we cannot give any ETA. But there is a good chance the first version of the documentation will be available for the next release after v2.1.19.

Re: Documentation
Hi.
I think it's very important to explain, albeit briefly, that makes each of the service operations that can be done with the application and if any condition to do that we should run the operation, for example, you must execute the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Static Regeneration when the parameter DP_DPF exceeds a X value. I have compiled http://forscan.org/download.html, multiple service operations making application. please could you summarize or indicate a URL that explains?
-"Reset All Adaptations"
-"Reset Engine Oil Deterioration Learned Value"
-"Reset Fuel Pump Adaptation"
-"Reset Fuel Injector Adaptation"
-"Reset MAF Sensor Adaptation"
-"Reset O2 Sensor Adaptation"
-"Read Fuel Injector Correction Factors"
-"Change Fuel Injector Correction Factors"
-"Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Static Regeneration"
-"Injector calibration"
-"Fuel Injectors Manual Test"
-"Reset EGR Valve Adaptations"
some operation more?
Regards.

2 basic rules of work with service functions:carlus wrote: I think it's very important to explain, albeit briefly, that makes each of the service operations that can be done with the application and if any condition to do that we should run the operation, for example, you must execute the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Static Regeneration when the parameter DP_DPF exceeds a X value. 1. Don't run a service function if you don't know what it does and what you do.
2. If you don't know what a service function does, it most likely means your vehicle doesn't need it.
In contrast to other operations provided by FORScan, service functions (or majority of them) CHANGE some parameters in ECU, that may affect vehicle behaviour. We already have a complaints from users that run service function, and although they were executed successfully, the result is not what users expected.
Service functions are rather a "professional" kind of tools, designed to be used by workshop specialists. So next rule is:
3. Try to find and use workshop manual for your vehicle.
Workshop manuals have references to service functions in WDS, that are very similar to the ones implemented in FORScan. Besides, it has a lot of other helpful information necessary for effective diagnostic with FORScan.
Also, all service procedures display some information as the first step when you run them. So you can run the service procedure, read information (in order to understand what this function is designed for) and cancel the operation. In the future version we will add an Information button that will display info about the function without running it.
"Reset" group of functions: performs reset of adaptations/learned values accumulated by ECU. Explanation of how the self-learning works is a subject of large article and we have doubts FORScan documentation will ever include it. In simple words, these functions are designed to be used when some components are replaced. For example, if you replace an old MAF sensor with new one, PCM requires a reset of MAF learned data, because they are not actual (wrong) for the new MAF sensor and will cause incorrect engine management. Reset may be necessary in all cases when current learned data are incorrect/outdated.carlus wrote: -"Reset All Adaptations"

It should be counted that ECUs of pre-CAN generation (1996-2002..2005) have minimal self-learning (usually implemented only for fuel/air trim for gasoline engines). Modern ECUs (2006..2008 - now) may have a lot of learned data and their reset may affect driveability very noticeable.
"Calibration" group of function: performs initialization/calibration of some system - forces a ECU to collect and pre-set some initial data in order to avoid long self-learning and unstable/not optimal work.
Change Fuel Injector Correction Factors - enter injector codes (on ECUs that require it), necessary after any TDCi fuel injector repair or replacement. We created an article about it: http://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2. Read Fuel Injector Correction Factors is a read-only version of this procedure (sometimes it is helpful to just read current injector codes).
DPF Static regeneration - another large area, besides it depends on model. In general, it is necessary when ECU can not perform an automated regeneration for some reason (e.g. short trips for long time).
Injectors Manual test is designed for a simple injector check. It allows to disable injectors one by one. So if some injector doesn't work, switching it off doesn't change engine work.
