2011 F-150 - locks cycle every time i turn the ignition to run

Post by badmechanic74 »

Hi FORScanners,
my brother and i are new to FORScan.
We bought the extended license and successfully deleted the keys on a 2011 F-150 (it showed 3 but we only have 1).
Then we added 2 keys (the original 1 we had and 1 additional we bought).
That worked. As most of you know, it takes a minimum of 2 PATS keys to do the programming.

Now whenever we use the original key, the doors lock and unlock once as we turn it to run.
It does it again when starting and the key returns to run.

Has anyone seen this happen when reprogramming keys?

Thanks for any ideas you have.

It’s still in programming mode. Just turn one key on 5 seconds and turn off. Use second key and turn on 5 seconds and off. Then start the truck should end programming

Hi Ptrck600,
That makes sense but it didn't work.
The original key still does it and the 2nd one still doesn't.
Also tried programming them in reverse order using FORScan.
Only other difference worth noting, the original key has integrated keyless and the 2nd is just a key.

What other suggestions do you have?

Thanks,

I've seen this when you use Chinese Knock Off keys
It transmits Pats OK but doesn't transmit BCM code for remote entry

Interesting. Well in this case it's the original Ford key that is doing it.
Was working fine before the delete...

i have a third key coming (aftermarket with integrated keyless remote).
Going to add that in the mix and see what happens.
Currently only code that shows up is a TPMS code.

Same thing happens on my 2013 F-150 STX. My solution is just to use the "just a key" to start it.
I keep the keys that come with my vehicles put away and use copies. My original Ford key is put away, but it's the one that causes the locks to cycle. Some Chinese knock offs I have with built in fobs don't have this issue.
The issue showed up when I had a locksmith delete all the keys and generate the original Ford key/fib and an Ilco just a key as the "original" keys.
The vehicle *does* "auto program" the fob part of any key that's programmed to start it.
My guess is that our trucks are looking for two keys with integrated fobs and the lock cycle may actually indicate one fob wasn't found.

I've got the same issue happening with my 2016 F250. The blanks I got are Strattec brand so I know they are quality. After the erasing and reprogramming procedure, my original key cycles the locks once when I turn to on position. The new keys (with IKT) start the truck fine without cycling the locks, but the difference is that when I use my remote start, I get a single horn beep the first push of the start button. Minor annoyances since like Shadow460 I don't use my original key for regular use, I use the additional copies. I am going to try the programming procedure again and make sure I didn't do something wrong. I'll update if I get any changes/different results. Please do the same if someone figures this out. Thank you.

Interesting posts. Thanks for the replies.

BTW we added the remote start antenna off ebay for $40 and added another key that had a remote start button.
Then we enabled remote start through Forscan.
Worked flawlessly.

Naturally the remote start key is the primary one in use now, so like shadow 460 the key that has the issue isn't in daily use (note: it is the first key programmed and a Ford original with the keyless integrated).
That solves the problem for now. We just won't use that key. :-)

BTW as i mentioned in another thread, never ever enable unlimited keys.
