Newbie looking for help - will be sticking around!

Hi all

I'm glad i found this forum as it'll no doubt be a huge benefit to be a member of.

I'm new to Forscan, and OBD reading in general, but not new to Fords. I've had three Escorts and a Sierra in the past - all of which were modified. None of them had OBD ports though. The Escorts were a Popular, an XR3i and an RS Turbo and the Sierra was an Azura hatch in diamond white.

Anyway, the reason i'm posting looking for help is that i have a 2015 mk3.5 Focus ST estate that i've changed a few things on using Focccus, then went through it with ForScan to clear all DTCs sucessfully. At the start of the week i backed up using ForScan then removed the seatbelt warning chime using Focccus. The reason for this is that i'm a caretaker at a school and lock up late at night so drive round the car park slowly going from gate to gate to lock up. The chime constantly rining got annoying so it was removed. After doing this i used Forscan to clear all DTCs and the car started up with no issues or warning lights.

About an hour later i started the car to go home and there were three warning lights - the handbrake, the ESC and the ABS. When i got home i plugged the car in and tried to clear DTCs. The ABS and BCMii modules won't clear for some reason though. The car drives perfectly fine (other than i can't turn ESC off) and had no issues prior to this.

Whilst waiting to register on here i had read that the ABS can be reinstalled or something like that but i don't want to do anything that i don't understand fully. Same with deleting the profile of the car as i don't want the as-built to pick up the DTCs if i set up again for the first time. I'll post screenshots of the DTCs later when i'm back out at the car so that the exact DTCs can be seen.

Can anyone offer any help with this info so far?

Right -

I tried deleting the profile of the car and reloading it but the same error codes came back.

They are;

ABS - U2300:51-2B (the voltage was showing 11.8V tonight but was 12V previously)

BCMii - U2101:00-2F, again the voltage was 11.8v

Does that narrow anything down?

FOCCCUS may have made a bad change to your configuration. Load the original BCM configuration (hopefully you saved it).

Yeah, I always back up before making changes - I'll go back the way with Focccus and see where I get to.

so, thanks to Don Ridley's advice i was able to clear these codes. I took the car back to the standard back up in Focccus and ran Forscan - DTCs gone. I then started adding back in every change I had made, one at a time, on Focccus and ran ForScan after each change. Eventually, I got back to the second-last change I made which was to deactivate the Hill Start Assist so I've left that on for now and will look at removing it again at some point in the near future.

Thanks again for the advice, this seems a brilliant forum to be a part of so i will no doubt become a regular here as my ownership of the ST grows.

Think I'm missing something here, you stated you made a change to disable seat belt warning, which i can understand, assume you made this using Focccus rather then Forscan as you didnt have full licence?
What i can't understand is how that caused the hill start assist error? Anything being changed to do with PCM, TCM or ABS will cause errors unless you make changes in other modules to suit.
Why do you want to disable it permanently, its a benefit to most people, preventing roll back, also it can be disabled on the instrument cluster by unticking the box, without any issues if so desired.

The hill assist fault may have nothing to do with the actual function. I got hill assist faults when I had some network communication problems. I had not made any changes to the hill assist function.

Kevin_mc, out of curiosity, why don't you use Forscan to make changes instead of FOCCCUS? It may work better since it is actively being supported and updated. FOCCCUS development was stopped years ago.

I'm using focccus because I didn't know I was able to do these things with Forscan. Until I found this forum I just followed the advice that I saw posted on STOC and places like that. I had downloaded the free version of Forscan not know there were license options which I'll definitely look at. Forscan is much more user friendly than focccus so would be good to just use that. I'm not sure how many people in the UK are aware of the licensed version and the capabilities as most advise to use focccus then clear codes with Forscan.

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the Hill Start Assist as I find I'm actively fighting it most of the time it engages. I have turned it back on for now. I knew it could be disabled in the menu on the dash, is that a permanent option?

I made the seatbelt warning change at the same time as disabling the Hill Start Assist so want sure if it was either, or none, of those changes. Turning the seatbelt warning back on made no difference however enabling the Hill Start Assist solved the problem in the end.
