ELM327-compatible adapters - how to choose

Well... I finally ordered and have received my OBDLink EX USB Scan Tool for FORScan.

Does anyone know of a list of WHAT can be changed with this and the FORScan software? I have a 2011 Town Car, and just wondered if there a list of whats and wheres that can be adjusted.

I have noticed that the CODE for the keyless entry which is normally in the trunk has been removed from my car. Can the FORScan find that?

Does anyone know if the blinkers can be adjusted to flash 4-5 times when the lever is simply pressed instead of holding it (lane change mode is what newer cars call it)?

How about the cornering lights. I know in my old 1997 Town Car, they used to stay on about 5-10 seconds after you completed the turn (and blinker was off), this 2011 does not do that.

I have ELM327 cable with no switch v1.3a i have a 2005 cmax dm2 and also have a elm327 basic obd2 hand held and it says bad connection so is the fault with the car and not the equipment it says un able to connect to vehicle ? it can connect to elm no problem but vehicle no

I'm just curious. I found out that it has a FTDI FT232RL chip. Does anyone here know if this is a STN chip?

BBFLY produces ELM27 clones and is probably the best of the So Called ELM327 clones, all of which FORScan no longer recommends!

The FTDI 232RL chip spec Is referring to the Serial UART converter to USB chip and has nothing to do with the STN number! It is this chip that you download the drivers for to make the adapter connect to the computer!

The STN number(STN 1110 up to 2120) refers to the Hardware Chip and instruction set of the interface chip that communicates between the vehicles DLC connector and the above FTDI232(or by its original generic spec called RS232) serial converter to USB interface! It is this DLC to FTDI232 interface chip that later adapters(STN1170 and up chips) with up-gradable firmware are actually updating with the Firmware updates!

According to the specs I have been able to find the BF320302 is the older PIC 18 type interface chip(MicroChip PIC chips can use the STN Instruction And/or ELM327 instuction set) which means it is probably a clone of the STN 1130- 1170 or an ELM327 V1.4 chip! You would have to take it apart and look at the chip markings under a Magnifying glass to be sure! Also FORScan Will report what Instruction set it sees under the Configuration Tab during connection, in the Car Icon(STN11XX or ELM327vx.x)!

I have an old OBDLINK Scantool.net SX adapter that uses a PIC 24 chip and reports itself as STN 1130(Before I destroyed it attempting to modify it for the HS/MSCAN RS232 Relay) and I also have an ELMSCAN 5(I successfully Modified this one with the HS/MSCan toggle switch) that was also produced by Scan tool.net that has a PIC 18 Chip and reports itself as ELM327 v1.4! Neither of these adapters are/were firmware up-gradable!

I am saying that your BBFLY Adapter has and is using the FTDI serial to USB converter chip as most clones are using!The STN designation is describing a different chip from the FTDI Chip
Your BF32302 in all likelihood does not have an STN Branded Chip but is likely using A Microchip-Technology branded PIC18 chip that may be(most Likely is not) using the STN 1170 software control set (It could Identify it self as such in FORScan), but is more than likely using a Chinese variation of the original ELM327 software Control set(See PCB Board Attachment below Note The FTDI FL232 chip to the right and the PIC18 Chip to center left!

The Original ELM327 Chip set is no longer being produced or sold as of 2020(According to their web site) so any thing that identifies itself as ELM327(Last good version 1.4) these days(in likely fact the last Decade) is likely a Chinese produced clone! BBFLY used to be the best of the ELM327 clones(Their Ford VCM2 clones, If you can even call them that, are mostly junk) but that has begun to deteriorate in recent years!

OBDlink Scantool.net did sell a similar Product with a similar board(Same PCB Layout as the below picture) early on, which they labeled ELMScan 5(I have one of these which Identifies as ELM327 v1.4 in FORScan) If this was one of Scantool.net's first offerings it is likely that it was copied and BBFLY is still producing it. Just My opinion FWIW!
