BCM firmware update for 2011 F150 5.0 FX2

Post by CSharp »

My apologies if I am being a little dense. I have a 2011 F150-FX2. I am running Forscan 2.4.3 with an extended license. I have one of the Forscan recommended USB UBD Link EX adapters. I have seen references to other updating their BCM module's firmware. I have not seen anyone explicityly say they did it with Forscan. I have looked in the Configuration and Programming section and have not seen an option to update firmware for the BdyCM module.

Is there something I need to do to enable it or is it not ready for primetime for this make/model/year or user? I have replaced my BCM due to a power drain, but I can not stop the dome lights from blinking because I can not clear all the codes. It appears that this is because the firmware that came on the new BCM is outdated. I have the option to take the truck to Ford and have them update the firmware, but I have been fixing computers and phones for some time and feel I should be able to update the firmware on my truck (scarier words have never been uttered by a first timer, I know.) Tips or a flat out "that function is not available to you at this time" would be appreciated.

I'm not familiarized with your specific car but you should be able to update the firmware in BCM.
Newest models like 2020 or 2021 usually have problems with firmware or some options to be enabled.
I have an 2011 Ford Mondeo, that is Fusion in the States I believe and for me it is there, just afraid of doing it as I had some problems with smaller modules, but it was fixed by the Forscan team.
I also have a payed license, don't know if this matters.
Also I'm missing an external power source for the battery, for BCM it will take a while to update and I might remain without power

I figured out my problem. In order to use a beta function, you have to use a beta version.

Just so this is captured somewhere.....

I developed a phantom parasitic power loss. After performing a number of test, I determined my best bet was to replace the BCM. I replaced the BCM with a new Ford BCM, reprogrammed it with the previous boards .abt file. I could not reset the TPMS and also had codes about the rear left and rear right brakes drawing incorrect voltage. This caused the interior dome lights to flash in what I refer to as "Disco Mode". Using Forscan's firmware programming feature, I was able to flash the firmware and reprogram the module. Immediately all codes disappeared. It appeared that only the Calibration Level was incorrect. I hope this information makes this easier for someone down the line.
