Using Forscan to program on-the-bench

Post by MayTheFordBeWithYou »

Hi, i'd like to change mileage of a Ford Mondeo MK4 cluster with is outside the car.
Forscan is build to "connect" to the car before something like module programming can be done.
Does anybody know what Forscan looks for to find out if it is connected to the car? I've tried to send IGNITION CAN message on MS-CAN and HS-CAN, but that seems not sufficient.

Connect to the car and have Forscan create a vehicle profile. Remove the IPC and provide power and connect the CAN signal. Run Forscan using the vehicle profile and it will see the IPC.

You won't be able to see any functions on the IPC but you can change the configuration and flash firmware.

Yes, once you connect to the IPC with Forscan you can make all changes using as built or menu options. But you won't see the new mileage on the IPC display until you install it in a vehicle. I did exactly what you are wanting with an IPC.

But you don't gain any advantage by making changes out of the vehicle because you can't verify them. Bench programming is most useful when updating firmware. Plus you need a separate connector (from a junkyard vehicle) or pins to attach to the IPC connector.
