6R140 2012 transmission characterization update fails

hey everyone im new here, 2012 6.7 powerstroke. just installed new valve body and every time i try to go in and do the "transmission characterization update" it starts trying to and then says "service procedure has been interrupted".... Any help is appreciated i tried it first with a cheap elm327 no luck and now im trying with a OBDLink ex with no luck. need to get this truck on the road. thanks

Reset the PCM / TCM and maintain a power supply on the battery at all times.
Maintain the power supply on the laptop - don't waste your time with a mac, use a PC.
Look at these, realize they're not an exact match.
