does the OBDLinkEX support FEPS programming?

Post by dant1612 »

Hi,

Does the OBDLinkEX support FEPS output for programming? I'd tried a few times and always get stuck at "could not gain access" while updating the PCM. I tried manually providing Bat voltage (around `13v with charger) to pin 13, but still no success, it's possible I have the timing wrong or something though. Reading the docs does mention that FEPS is not properly supported yet, but I think that might be out of date. Thanks in advance for any help.

Vehicle is an Aus FG Falcon MKII (2012), with the 2.4.7 beta version. Happy to use this vehicle for further testing.

Use this type of cable for FEPS programming.
Tactrix is also a good product but most are clones. People in the AU use the Tactrix as a J2534 programming device with success.
One problem with Tactrix is Medium Speed CAN connection.
Another and more expensive device are J2435 devices but personally find them far more stable.
Use a clean and stable power supply on the battery at all times.

I use the CarDAQ Plus, CarDAQ Plus 2, VCM I, VCM 3, Bosch M-VCI, MDI 2, Tactrix and vLinker because of the nature of specific manufacturer work and programming.

You'll need the VGATE vLinker FS cable or OBDLink Pro FT J2534 cable. Tatrix OpenPort 2.0 will work as well but is a more limited J2534 as it doesn't support MSCAN. If you plan on using PCMtec at some point, get the OBDX Pro FT.

You'll also need access to the correct PCM calibration files. DON'T try reprogramming the PCM if you don't have the correct calibration files or you'll erase the PCM & won't be able to continue with programming. There's a few other things you'll need to get right or be at risk of VID block issues.

NOTE: You can't edit the PCM files/tune using Forscan.

Is the OBDX Pro FT confirmed to work with forscan, this is the one I have been looking at, because yeah future PCMtec compatibility.

I've been using the OBDX Pro FT, mostly for PCM programming but have used it for everything else I've had to do since purchasing it. It has been working faultlessly.

I use the OBDX Pro FT & wouldn't have suggested it if I hadn't tested it or wasn't using it.
There's been a few people purchase the the OBDX Pro FT that I've suggested it to & yes, it works with FORScan, FJDS, FDRS & PCMTEC.
Most people purchase it for the fact it is a J2534 device that has 18v FEPS support making it ideal for PCM programming using FORScan & PCMtec as well as other module programming. As it supports MS & HSCAN, it's a better option than the Tatrix OpenPort 2.0 cable that only supports HSCAN. It's also cheaper & a quality unit.

Thanks for the confirmation, I'm going to order one and see how we go. Unfortunately, I can't just give you a thumbs up and have to send a full reply

As a follow-up, I was successfully able to update the PCM with an OBDX Pro FT. Thanks for the help.

Not a problem. Good to see you have the bought the OBDX Pro FT & have successfully updated the PCM. They are a good quality J2534 adapter at a decent price.
