2006 YM F650 w/ Cummins Diesel 5.9L 5 Speed Manual, 2WD Dump

Post by DBMoehl »

I'm using Forscan v2.3.44 2 year extended license. My hardware is an OBDLink EX adaptor, a netbook running Windows 10, AMD Dual-Core C60 Processor @1.333GHz, 4 GB DDR, 256 SSHD.
The truck has a conventional OBDII port and a Cummins diesel specific round connector.
FORScan will not connect to the truck via the OBDII port.
My AUTEL MX200 reports the truck has an accessory ECM, but will read trouble codes.
However I think the Autel MX200 is misinterpreting the codes, as they don't make sense compared to the truck's problem.
I've downloaded the as-built from the Motorcraft website, but that is as far as I've gotten.
QUESTION: Anyone here have experience connecting via the OBDII port with this powertrain configuration?

A Ford dealer with VCM II or VCM 3 may connect with IDS software but most likely Cummins INSIte.
Any Cummins shop or tech with the correct software can also connect.
Take an image of the 16 PIN DLC and the Deutsch connector and itemize the connectors.
Check the DLC PIN 16 connection for Battery + and if not, check the fuse.
The OBD II connector only provides access to the GEM module, excluding the VIN and odometer.
The Deutsch connector provides access to the powertrain and braking system.
Take an image of the PCM tag (engine control module).
It may not be possible to connect with FORScan because of the differences in protocols.

Thanks, Ecmbuster,
The DLC (OBDII) port is powered up.
I'm thinking this is a rather uncommon configuration for FORScan, as there were only three mentions of an F650 w/Cummins diesel on the forum.
I had a fair amount of trouble connecting to my 2011 F150 for the first time.
The problems were with my hardware and the drivers for them, and the way FORScan polls and reports on the CAN Buss modules.
The truck has a problem with the ABS system I am unable to diagnose and repair with-out access to the trouble codes, short of throwing parts at it.
The truck is stuck in the mud at the back of the property, we should be able to get it back to the shop later this week (by 5/12/23).
More to come...

I find the 2011 F150 easy to connect to. Check the laptop, check the interface, clear all profiles and retest.
This interface works on may vehicles that are OBD compliant including GM, Dodge/Ram/Jeep/Alfa Romeo/Fiat, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai, Mitsubishi etc. etc.

Post your images and PCM tag from that F650 with the Deutsch connector.

Hi, again, ECMBuster
The problem I had with my 2011 F150 was that FORScan was not seeing the truck's Power Steering Control Module.
It turned out that the steering rack in my truck was a Dorman OEMFix unit that was apparently installed (PMI performed) using Dorman's dongle.
I eventually gave up and put an Auto Parts Recycler (wrecking yard) sourced genu-whine FORD service part rack in it and did the PMI with FORScan.
This time I'm dealing with a 2006 F650 Cummins powered dump, as the title of my post mentions.
I'm gonna give it another shot tomorrow, I'll post results.
It may take a conference with the FORScan support team if I'm not successful.

Dorman is junk but they also steal OEM parts and put them in a Dorman box, been there, done that.

The Dorman OEMFix rack was mechanically well made and in perfect mechanical condition. It apparently faulted on Long Term Pull Compensation. By the time I heard back from the Team, I'd already installed the Auto Recycler supplied "used but good" rack and done the PMI with FORScan. Dorman was no help with technical support or warrantee stating the "Limited Lifetime Warrantee" was valid only to the original purchaser. Apparently, the original purchaser was a gyppo used car sales garage, I was SOL.
