Connection only with the car running - vLinker Fd

So, I recently purchased a vLinker FD to use with my Mazda 323 (Allegro). The car doesn't come with OBDII but thanks to the post for Pre-CAN here on the forum I successfully got the reader working and connecting to the FORscan lite app.

However, it will only communicate with the car when it is running. So it doesn't let me see any info before a cold start or when it shuts off (which it's the problem I'm trying to resolve). Is there any workaround to this?

So, a little update here.

I got the scanner and FORScan due to the car randomly shutting off while driving/idling. The ecu has water damage so it may be the cause of it not working (however I got to it working sometimes w/ the key on the on position). Got a second hand ecu, will try to retest everything
