Bf Falcon

Post by Vr0Omm »

Can someone please explain why Forscan can't connect to my 2006 BF Falcon ECU? The engine starts and runs well, although half of the dash comes up with Christmas lights. Fuel, ABS, Temp, Traction control etc. Any answer would be appreciated

Does FORScan recognise the cable?
What cable are you using?
Have you checked the courtesy lamp fuse? It provides power to the OBDII connector. No power, no connection
Have you done any work to the car prior to this happening eg removed the ICC?
Has the ECU been tuned with a SCT device? Sometimes this will scramble PCM data & cause issues where other scantools can't connect.

There are lost of possibilities

To be honest I have very little knowledge how the forscan works as it is my first time using it, I used the thread I found on forum how to reprogram the secondhand ICC
I tested the courtesy light fuse, and it is all good
The OBD2 cable is recognised but it won't connect to the ECU, I got mine from OBD2 Australia (Forscan OBD to USB Cable Windows - With MS Can Switch)
Yeah, I have removed the ICC to replace the faulty unit and the ECU has the SCT aftermarket tune. But I tried connecting the SCT tool first and I wasn't getting anything, "can't read DTCs". Even tried resetting it to stock, nothing.
One thing that I have noticed when I am locking the doors indicators don't flash, doors still lock. Could it be that the secondhand ICC unit is faulty?
Oh yeah, I forgot, the ICC that I got is coming from 2004 Territory.

Thanks for your response. The information you provided is very helpful. I will try reinstalling the old ICC and see if that helps. If not, I will call an auto electrician. :)

A lot of people make the mistake of not installing the ICC properly & this causes CANbus issues along with others. The cluster christmas lights & no comms at the OBDII connector, hence why I asked if you'd removed the ICC. Also make sure the connectors are properly connected to the BCM.
The white section of the ICC connector in the dash needs to be pulled out until it locks out. This helps start the connector into the ICC & as it goes into place, it unlocks & the ICC will seat into it's correct position. Territory ICC will work in a Falcon.

Hey, you were right! The plug didn't go in properly. One of the plastic clips that holds the plug in the dash broke. Thanks again, mate!
