2018 FPIU IPC - wrong programming order

Post by soaring-sky »

Hi,
Sharing an issue and workaround I recently encountered while updating the IPC module firmware on my 2018 Ford Police Interceptor Utility.
Updating the IPC using the default settings leads to the situation documented in post 4.2 of the How to Update Module Firmware thread. After the update completes, I receive the error message "Programming was successful, but something went wrong. Module seems to be bricked :(". Indeed, the IPC was non-functional - nothing lit up, and there were no chimes. Repeating the update process again didn't change anything and gave the same error.
The issue was wrong programming order as documented in post 4.2. I followed the instructions in the post to use custom programming mode to do calibration first, then strategy. After completing the manual procedure, my IPC successfully updated and worked properly again.
It would be nice if FORScan could implement a workaround for this model, so that people will not encounter the issue.
I did the update to address a battery drain issue documented in SSM 50954. Used a Vgate Vlinker FS and the latest FORScan Beta v2.4.15 with paid license on Windows 10.

Programmed versions: Calibration level: JB5T-10849-JF, Strategy : JB5T-14C026-AD, Calibration: JB5T-14C088-AB
