2017 Escape EcoBoost - Turbo Underboost

Post by josh.knighton »

Hey everyone. This is my first post/fresh user here so go easy.
I'm looking at a 2017 escape that had reportedly no power under acceleration.
Throwing a P0299 code. Any Help is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest looking at the simple physical stuff first. My F150 threw this code after I changed the thermostat. Why? I had to loosen some charge pipe clamps and remove the pipes between the turbos, the intercooler, and the throttle body just so I could easily access the thermostat. When I put it all back together, I somehow forgot to tighten one of those clamps, leading to a leak under boost. Low boost wasn't a problem but when lots of boost was called for, the loose clamp allowed a boost leak. Having about a 75% throttle position says to me that lot of boost is being asked for.

That's a simple cause. Hopefully the turbo isn't broken... That's probably worst case. I'm not a mechanic by any stretch. The above is just what I had happen with my pickup. Once I found and tightened the loose clamp, the boost code went away.
