Re: Ford Focus MK4 Battery Type Config BCM

Post by Donny »

To confirm what @Andural said about the BCM version, mine was updated in May this year when I was getting some unrelated warranty work done and it is exactly the same as @Andural's, so it was the latest version in May.

My TCU version is completely different from your ones, but I'm in the UK so there must be different versions for different countries :?:
With my car the TCU is updated automatically if I have Connectivity settings enabled

Yes I have to update my BCM.. That will maybe help..

After a couple of hours rest i tested again..

SoC dropped to 67%, showed in forscan. The over 90% werent real. Thats correct.

My batterytester showed me a different SoC 79%. So everything makes no sense at all.

I don't understand it either. I don't use my car enough and my SOC in FORScan is normally between 50 and low 60%, but if I measure the Voltage across my Battery after fully resting the car it is normally 12.45 to 12.5 like your one, which should be about 70 or 80% :?:

Apart from Stop/Start only working twice this year, which I'm glad about because I saves my switching it off, I have not had anything else disabled because of low Battery charge.

My BCM update was for something else but it has not made any difference to my SOC. My PCM, TCU,ACM,APIM were also updated at that time.

On my 2016 the SOC is only accurately calculated when the vehicle sits overnight. SOC numbers change in real time while I'm driving, but the BCM needs a long period with no load to see how much the battery voltage drops. The voltage drop is used to calculate SOC.

I have tried today to update the BCM firmware to the latest one. It unfortunately didnt work. The flashing went through without any problem and firmware was installed to the version Andural has,

But I had DTCs and flashing interior light which didnt went away. So I had to flash back to the old factory firmware. No more flashing but no update too.

My BCM is running now, thanks to ForScan and the Supportteam on the latest BJC Version.

I also have the latest CB Version of the BMS installed.

Last step will be the new battery. Now it has to be working..

My config was:
Varta 52Ah 500CCA T5 Case

This DID NOT match the actual battery and start stop rarely worked even after giving the battery a good charge.

I changed to:
Varta 70Ah 600CCA H6 Case (actual battery installed from factory)

My start-stop works everyday now.

I changed both settings in BdyCM Module:
Battery Type Factory
Battery Type Normal

I did not change Battery Type which is set to Flooded. The battery is an EFB so it's close enough.

How long (since type change) does it work?

Do you mean how long it keeps the engine off after stopping?

It depends on many factors such as engine temp and if heating/cooling is on.

If I turn heating/cooling off it says off for maybe 5 minutes when sitting at the lights, very long time now.
