Thanks so much for the reply. That is exactly what I was looking for. So glad I didn't proceed to erase the one good working key.
Forscan does return that there are 2 working keys, I only have the one when I bought the truck used a few weeks ago.
Luckily I can return the Chinese key for a refund if it did not program.
So, I will get an original OEM key, get it cut and hopefully be able to add an additional key,
You mentioned that there is a different procedure for a 4 button key. I didn't notice that anywhere in my search on this site.
My key has the remote start button which works for the truck.
Could you or someone point me to that?
I'll try to search some more for that, maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Thanks again, Bill
If there is a Fob programming procedure in Forscan it will be in Body Control Module/GEM Configuration or in BCM/GEM Service Procedures!
This is the Unlock/Lock Fob Procedure that I have used with one caution. Make sure that you have collected all the fobs that you plan to use, as this procedure will erase all the fobs that are in RKE memory and make sure that (only have to press one) fob buttons are pressed within 8 Seconds of each other.
Close the car doors, then open the driver-side door. Press the UNLOCK button on the driver-side door.
Next, turn the ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times. Do this within 10 seconds, making sure the 8th time ends on RUN. When you’ve entered programming mode, the door locks will lock and unlock. (Note: If the doors don’t cycle, turn the key faster. Your car may not have keyless entry if you still can’t get the doors locks to cycle.)
Press any button on the Ford remote to be programmed. Do this within 8 seconds. The door locks will cycle again to confirm the keyless entry remote is programmed and ready to use.
Have a second remote key fob? Again, press any button on the remote within 8 seconds to cycle the door locks. Repeat this step for any additional key fobs.
Finally, turn the ignition to OFF. The locks will again cycle to confirm programming is complete.

I bought a 2015 Ford Mondeo MK5 but it only had one key but in the car configuration 2 keys appear as registered. Is it possible to write another new key myself without reaching a FORD dealer? If possible with Forscan, please tell me the steps to follow? The car has keyless go and keyless entry and has that special place for the key inside the armrest. Thank you very much

I know this is an old thread, but this seems the best place to post my reply....
I purchased some keys from Amazon - VOFONO, and had them cut. Then went to program them - no go.
The bad thing is that I had wanted to remove all previous keys and start fresh since there were already programmed keys and I only possessed one of them. I did not heed the warning (I had not seen it) that you better have TWO FACTORY keys on hand.
That's the first time I have bricked a car!
I thought for sure I had some cheap knock off key - so I ordered a couple more from another vendor - no go.
This thread helped me understand - cheap import keys may or may not work.
I bought a second factory key for the MX-5 (80 bucks) and they cut it, and along with the one working key I had, I was able to program it fine using FORscan.
Thank you for the app to the developers, and thanks to people on the forum who took the time to post.

Any idea what does the "B10D7:94-2F" code mean? it's not explained in the op post.

From our experience, it means that the PATS antenna cannot read transponder signal reliably. For example, some of our users who experimented with keys reached B10D7:94 if they wrapped the key in a foil.

Thanks for shedding light on this

[...] the PATS antenna cannot read transponder signal reliably
that does not seem to be the case here. The key is this one:
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255800681300910.html
Bought it together with the chip. I don't have any cases or covers for my key, so it's strange that the DTC would occur because the signal isn't reliable

There is nothing that could obstruct the signal (well, apart from the key itself).
//edit
orrrr its just that the transponder is blank (not yet programmed)

I tried programming some keys from Amazon this evening, and now I have a truck that will not run. I followed the instructions in this post, cleared the DTS codes, turned the ignition to on with the new key, and got a B1601 in the DTS. I only have 1 original key, so, assuming the key would program, I went ahead and erased and tried to reprogram. The truck though will not recognize the purchased keys, only the original and I am stuck.
I am on Windows 11. I found logs under the user folder AppData\Roaming\FORscan. They are attached here.

An Idea of the Vehicle you are attempting this on and the adapter you are using would be helpful!
The attached .Zip Files Should go to the Email support address to be found just above the Heading"Providing FORScan Debug Information and not to the open Forum and it would help if you where to reduce the size of the log file as per the instructions for the Windows version following the heading! That support Address is available at this link:
https://forscan.org/contactus.html!
I suspect I know what the Answer will be However as we have seen this before with keys obtained from Amazon etc!
And it would seem that since your original is recognised as programmed and in memory(means PATS can read and write Transponders) but the two amazon keys will not read and write then the problem would likely originate with Amazon keys in that PATS can read the transponder signature successfully(Hence the B1601 code) This only means the transponder returned a recognisable signature not necessarily that it is programmable(Able to be Read and then Write) But if the amazon transponders will not take the the vehicles signature being written back into the transponder then the programming will fail and could even fail with out a log entry! The fact that both are not recognised would also suggest they are clones of either each other or cloned from a copy of a copy with the same problem!
If the two amazon keys have any signature(usually S or SA for 40 or 80 Bit Stratec keys) that is etched and not stamped into the key blade then they are likely not genuine and are most likely clones of clones of a clone etc. The quality of each copy gets poorer with each copy and can cause a a no start even if they program and the second key is a copy of the first leaving you with only one recognised key in memory!
The error message will usually be "Programming was successful but the key count has not increased"(had this happen myself with the 03 EXPY that has four keys that start the EXPY but only two separate transponders in memory so apparently two of those transponders are copies of one of the ones in memory)!
Best way!! Obtain the Part Numbered key belonging to this vehicle, from your local or a Dealer which should have the S or SA Stamped into the blade and run PATS again with it and your original and see what happens!
Most often, PATS Problems are caused by poor transponder blanks, I suspect this is no exception!
Just A long FWIW from someone who has been there!

The vehicle is a 2008 Ford Ranger. The solution was to purchase a key from the dealer. They cut the key, but did not need to program it. Actually, with the truck still only having one key programmed, it accepted the new key from the dealer without having to do anything else with FORscan. Just for reference, the key from the dealer was $36.
The only problem I have with FORscan is that it indicated that the keys would work with the DTS code, but they wouldn't then program. I am sure FORscan is just passing on the code, but that was frustrating, trying to check it would work first, but it still not working. FORscan did everything else fine.
So, my suggestion is to just go buy a key from the dealer and save the effort and time wasted on getting a cheaper key, which is a gamble if it will work or not. FORscan did add the new key just fine, so I did not have to pay the dealers "programming fee".

Hi everybody!
i've got a 2005 mustang V6 and i'm doing the key fob procedure, because i wanted to erase the old keys stored in the ECU..but every time i manage to get all the keys programmed, the key count still tells me that i have programmed just 1 key..and if i start the car right away with the last one, she fires up..but when i shut it off, every key seems to be forgotten by the ECU and i can't fire up the car again. someone got a solution for this?
