December 10, 2019 - OBDLink EX adapter is available



OBD Solutions company has released their brand new OBDLink EX USB adapter. This product was created specially for our project, FORScan team was directly involved in testing and refinement of the adapter. In addition to high performance and MS-CAN bus support, OBDLink EX has a set of advanced features that make it comparable to expensive J2534 PassThru devices but for a very reasonable price.

I would like to know where this information is coming from because the actual stats posted by the ForScan admins indicate the OBD Link EX is only capable of 25% of the throughput compared to a real ELS27 v3. What makes the OBD Link EX special? does it have something to do with the STN2230 chip?

I don't understand how it's comparable to a J2534-2 device; just seems like false advertising to me.

I think it will be a great replacement for ELS adapters once firmware issues are solved as the STN chip is newer than ELS27.

Here is info from FORScan Support:
"Also it was found out that there are problems with firmware update on some slow modules using OBDLink EX + new STN command set, so we had to temporarily disable new STN API until ScanTool fixes it and releases new firmware. Without the API firmware update works much slower on EX than on UCDS. We (FORScan team and ScanTool team) are hopeful to resolve all these issues in 1 month. Sorry for the inconvenience."

"- It is not recommended to use china ELM327, as it is impossible to guarantee stable work in there. ELM327 Adapters that proved their ability to program firmware:
-- OBDLink EX
-- Ford VCMII original
-- VXDiag VCX Nano for Ford/Mazda
-- ELS27 - original (clone may hang after 30-40 minutes of work)
-- OBDLink SX (doesn't support MS-CAN, so may need to be modified for it)
-- VINT-TT55502 USB (marked as Ford/Mazda/FORScan compatible, with HS/MS CAN switch). Update: one user was unable to program SYNC3 with it.
-- VeePeak USB (marked as Ford/Mazda/FORScan compatible, with HS/MS CAN switch). Update: one user was unable to program SYNC3 with it."

The OBD Link EX is about 15 times slower than my ELS27, but I realize it's still a work in progress.

I'll try it again when the new drivers are out and it has more time to mature. For now, I will recommend the OBD Link EX, but only to people who want a 'cheap' adapter without the HS / MS switch.

I have both the one with the switch and I just bought the new one yesterday thinking it is better,which should I continue using
