Hello everyone,
today while I was activating the cruise control on my fiesta mk7.5 I noticed that forscan finally allows to update the calibrations of the various control units (PCM, IPC, ABS, etc.). I have read the release notes of the program and they advise against the use of peripherals with ELM327 chip (the ELS27 has an ELM1.3A chip) and therefore I preferred not to proceed with the update, the questions I have are:
-Has anyone ever tried updating modules with an ELS327 interface?
-How long does an update take (Let's say a PCM firmware of 4000000+ bytes or ACM)? (I do not have a garage available, so I exclude being able to keep PC and car on charge)
And finally, the most important question: is it really worth updating to the latest calibrations? Are there any tangible benefits, or are these just minor improvements that aren't worth the risk?
Forscan has detected the following updates:
PCM: F1B1-12A650-BDA >>>> F1B1-12A650-BDD
ACM: E1BT-18C815-GL >>>> E1BT-18C815-GR
PSCM: AE81-3C579-GC >>>> AE81-3C579-GD
Thank you all!

Re: ELS327 and Firmwares Updates
Some very sound advice with using FORScan to update firmware modules is as a very minimum I would only use an OBDLink EX Cable.

Re: ELS327 and Firmwares Updates
Concerning the best peripherals compatible with forscan, which one would be the best in this case?
I just saw that it's kind of difficult to find an OBDLink EX in europe, however it is quite common to see J2534 or VCMII devices for sale at reasonable prices (150USD), any feedback in that regards?
Thanks!

Re: ELS327 and Firmwares Updates
It's not that difficult. They have resellers in France, Germany and Netherlands. I got mine from France for around £70. Just type OBDLink EX into eBay.

Re: ELS327 and Firmwares Updates
I tried updates for the PCM and TCM with the ELS27 adapter and it took about 34 minuter for the PCM and about 24 minutes for the TCM. I had a battery charger attached and my old laptop plugged in and charging. I didn't have a garage available either and used a good extension cord and power strip. And made sure that sleep mode was turned off on my old laptop. And everything worked fine just took about double the time that Forscan estimated. I used version 2.4.2 I have a 2013 Ford Focus SE.colmoschin94 wrote: Wed Sep 16, 2020 6:22 am Hello everyone,

Re: ELS327 and Firmwares Updates
Great, thanks!
I decided to purchase a VCX nano to attempt updating the modules, so we will see once it will arrive
I'm also quite curious to understand if it would be better to do the update via forscan or IDS since the new interface supports both softwares...
