I was disappointed with the fuel consumption on my 2011 Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCi DW10C with powershift, the trip computer average mpg always displayed around 45mpg, but actual mpg when checking against mileage and fuel used when refilling was more like 37mpg, pretty much every time +/-1 or 2 mpg. I did some research and it was suggested that updating the engine ECU firmware might improve this. So I used FORScan 2.4.5.beta3 and updated the PCM firmware as firmware updates were available. The firmware update reset the 140PS to 163PS mod I had carried out so I left it as 140PS to see what the mpg would be (I didn't notice any change in mpg going from 140 to 163).
I did a 340m trip on mainly motorway, this would normally see 37-39mpg with 2 people and light luggage (40mpg was my best ever average, 411m). With a fully loaded Galaxy with 5 people I got 44mpg so a good 10% improvement with the firmware update, still a bit short of the >50mpg I would like but hayhow. This also now tallies with the trip computer mpg average of 45mpg which appears to be the default...
The only downside to updating the firmware is I got a little carried away and updated the other modules (all except RFA and PAM at the time) and seem to have caused several issues (I know, shoot me please…):
1) PAM (park assist) 'Erasing blocks failed'...service procedure interrupted. Turned out the PAM module blew during update giving a 'PAM has no DTC function'. I replaced the module with used off eBay which fixed the issue.
2) During I think the BCMii firmware update which was succesful, there was a 'key not in vehicle' type message and now both smart keys for keyless start have stopped functioning and remote unlock/lock functions stopped. To start the car I needed to put the key into the emergency slot in the steering column. I thought some how the coding had been erased so I got my local auto locksmith to recode both keys, both coded but the RFA module still says ‘no keys present’, even when in the slot, but I can still start the car. I am currently using a key to unlock/lock the car but have to quickly put the smart key in the slot and press the start button to switch off the alarm.
I have replaced the keyless Remote Antenna in the roof lining but this hasn't fixed the issue. There are no DTCs what so ever so I am at a loss as to where the issue is. Could it be the KVM module needs recoding?
I have reloaded as built data etc.
Any help would be much appreciated.

as it is a 2011 you could have done the keys yourself with forscan ,as for the remote key issues you may need to reprogram the keyless start and door locking , a quick internet search will help you their or have a browse in this forum i think i remember someone posting how to do it here but was a long time ago 6+ months .
if you have a saved profile form before before updating modules etc this will need to be deleted then a new profile will need to be created .

i am the same as you just a forscan user still learning .

Re: PCM firmware update improves mpg (2011 Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCi DW10C) but have other issues now...
Thanks for your input Andyfocus, I've done loads of searches to find the answer and only posted when I have no other options left. I have tried coding a 2nd key when I first got the car but it's just outside of the Forscan PATS programming coverage as it needs in/out codes that Forscan can't produce, think 2010 is the cutoff for my car.
I've not seen the process for reprogramming the remote buttons/keyless start (I have tried the 'press start button 4 times then any button on the remote', but that doesn't work) should this not be part of the key programming (and PATS) performed by the locksmith? He did my 2nd key originally without issue. I'll have a search and report back. Many thanks

remote door locking and remote start are seperate from pats programming , am hoping the lock smith has deleted all previous keys and sarted from fresh as i dont think you will be able to programm the doors as it requires keys presses from all programmed keys .
did you try the online key code generator linked in the pats programming page ? ,
i would look at the pats and see if you can see how many keys are programmed , do you know if he cloned the key or did actually programm it with pats ?

Yes he did delete all previous keys I was with him when he did it, it requests an outcode/incode automatically so think it was done properly.
The online code generator is for 40bit keys I beleive, and my outcode is the later 80bit starting with 1040 so could not get the incode generated and need the Ford login to generate. I presume without the incode I can't use Forscan...

you have to buy a vcm /vcm2 they are quite expensive , i use a vcm mini for ford /mazda's it quite expensive too , when you buy them you get ids with it in a virtual machine on a disc .

Yeah I suspected that, thanks Andy, I may as well try my locksmith again, he only charged £60 for 2 keys. I'm still not convinced there isn't a physical issue with my car stopping comms with the keys, and I'm gonna change the key batteries again just to be sure. I'll report back...
