Spark or ignition timing active control

Post by Maverick Su-35S »

Hi,

I'm a user of the ForScan software for my own car for more than 2 years and I can say that I didn't yet find a more user friendly and also quite powerful tool for diagnosing problems and directly manipulating some controls for a better investigation of systems.

The ForScan seems to allow the user to directly control some parameters on the run which is at least said very useful. I have a 125HP 1.0 Ecoboost Focus 3 (2015) and besides a 4 years long frustration of not finding the cause for my +10 and above LTFT that the engine wants to settle to no matter what I try and how many times I reset the adaptations and finding out that I can directly control some parameters such as AFR (which is part of the subject for my problem), VVT, injectors On/OFF control and other params is very useful to me to see the engine behavior when I play with these numbers.

Besides that annoying high LFTF, only after the engine heats up enough (above some 80 Celsius coolant temp) I can now hear engine pinging (it's almost an year since I started hearing this) at some 40 to 60% engine load on a scale that ranges from 0% to 200% on the scanner (I've chosen either absolute or relative engine load, don't remember now) only when the rpm is below some 2000..2100. So only when the engine load is about a quarter and only below 2100rpm I can clearly hear engine detonations/pinging (sounds like diesel) and it just hurts me to hear that knowing what it does to the engine. The only way around it so far is to accelerate a bit more until I go beyond that rpm and only start cruising above that rpm otherwise that pinging is there permanently at lower rpm and quarter load. I really must be able to somehow control the ignition timing manually in order to see how the pinging might go away at various timing angles exactly for that quarter engine load and 1500rpm condition where the pinging is at it's highest. So I basically have to do this while safely driving and record the data to analyze it afterwards.

I am addressing this topic with the question/request of the possibility to add the option to also directly control the spark/ignition timing angle as it already happens with the other available parameters. The more parameters that I can manipulate/control during the engine run can help me better find the cause for what I'm looking for.

Thank you very much!

So what do you guys think? Would it be possible to add the spark/ignition timing and also (again, if possible) the turbine wastegate valve position as a control function the same way as VVT, AFR, EVAP valve and others alike are already available?

Many thanks!
