J2534, VCMII or OBDII MX?

Post by cljnco »

Hello, I am looking to purchase some hardware. Most my vehicles are Ford and Lincoln however I have few other vehicles that are not Ford as well.
Basically from what I read, VCM II or a good quality knock off is the best option if I just want to use it on my Ford vehicles and will give me access to all modules including MS-CAN stuff, Plus I can use IDS software with it.

J2534 device such as CanTieCar is good and compatible with other vehicles and software, except some modules that J2534 cannot access, such as MS-CAN. Are there no J2534 devices that can access MS-CAN?

And then there is OBDlinkMX, I can use this with, Forscan to read all modules and do some basic config mods and use with other vehicles with general software.

So folks does that about cover it? What are you using? I like the Idea of the J2534 device, It seems it's a possibility of actually using IDS with a J2534 device as well. however, would like to be able to read all the modules. Are there any of these devices that can do that? Any help much appreciated.

For universal compatibility and value for money, you can't beat the OBDLink MX

I've been very happy with mine
USA
2010 Ford Fusion I4
2010 Mercury Milan I4
2001 Mercury Villager
OBDLink MX+ BT & EX USB
Launch Smartlink C J2534 USB
vLinker FS USB

Willing to beta test

Thanks, that is the route I went up going. Although, I will eventually be getting a VCMII if I can find a good quality one that I know will cover my cars and flash. But there is so little info on where to find a good quality VCMII, One source will say buy it here, another will say no don't buy it there, buy it here.

Thank you, I found one on Ali and thought what the heck. I went ahead and ordered one of those as well. It was V100 so I am hoping it will cover my 13 and 14 model years.
