Change VIN number on ABS module

Post by Cossierolle »

Hi!
What adapter do i need to get the option to change VIN number on used ABS module?
Car: 2013 Ford F150 Ecoboost

I need to replace the ABS module on our car so we ordered a new one, and i bought the V-linker cable recommended here. and got the forscan for windows paid license.
Before we replace the module i tried connecting to the old one but when checking in the ABS module i cannot see the VIN number option there.
(only option available is: "Hill decent option"

So before we replace the module i need to make sure i have a cable/adapter that i can use to change to correct VIN number on the "new" ABS module.
Please can someone point me in the right direction what cable to buy? dont want it to be crazy expensive since im just going to use it this one time.

someone on facebook gave the advice for RLink J2534 from topdon.us but he was still unsure if it would work, and it also pretty expensive.

im very grateful if someone can help me out with this.

The Vin number in most of the modules is encoded in Hexadecimal code in the AsBuilt Configuration format, usually in the first four addresses as in 760-01-01 to 760-04-01.

A Hex editor will be needed in order to edit your Vin number into Hex code! I use a Program called NotePad+ with a Hex editor plugin installed for this purpose See this topic for examples: viewtopic.php?t=22712&p=82397#p82397!

That topic is discussing a Side Object module retro fit but Vin Hex coding is the same in most modules encoded this way!

This is the hardest way to do this and usually used as a last resort!

The easiest way to do this Change is to save(With the "Save All" button in the AsBuilt Format configuration) the AsBuilt configuration from the original module to a file(If the original is accessible) and then install the replacement and use the "Restore all" button to upload the original into the replacement module!

This will also restore the other settings as in Hill start assist to the settings in original module!

Alternatively you can also do this using the "Load Factory AB in the replacement module! See this topic for more information: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=17208 This will load the settings the vehicle left the factory with(Including the VIN) into the module!

You will likely get Check Sum errors using all the above methods as the last two characters on each line in each address are calculated when the address is written and the error can usually be ignored!

If this is a "New module" then it may come with the Firmware/Calibration file layer blank which may result in U type codes being set(U2100 missing configuration or incomplete intitial configuration)!
This would require a firmware update using the latest FORScan 2.4.22 beta version, see this topic: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=18751!

The Vlinker FS adapter should work just fine for this job!

See if those topics are of any help?
