2021 Explorer ST Enhanced Memory Retrofit

Hi all,

I've been mucking around with programming my 2021 Ford Explorer ST and came across the Enhanced Memory option (not enabled in factory asbuilt). Enabling this setting seemed to work though I came across a (known?) problem where the Ambient Lighting options could no longer be changed. Curiously, everything else regarding Enhanced Memory seemed to actually work on the car - I could register profiles, keyfobs, and the system generally behaved as expected save for a new DTC of U1A00:87-08 in the APIM.

Does anyone know if Enhanced Memory is just a feature toggle, or if it requires extra hardware to work? If the former, is there something I'm missing to preserve ambient lighting and/or deal with the DTC?

I can't, however, find any more information on the BCM side of things. The BCM itself is also set to use Enhanced Memory, so it's a bit curious. Perhaps there are in fact hardware requirements?
